The hoodlums numbering three was said to have shot Oyewole, a Deputy Superintendent of Police when he was at his house located at Akure -Owo road, with members of his family.
According to the deceased’s son, Dare, the police officer was eating when the gummen entered into their house at about 7pm.
Dare narrated that his father was informed by one of the neighbours of the arrival of the bandits. He said his father brought out his service pistol and followed the neighbour to his apartment in order to send away the suspected hoodlums.
He said the suspected robbers, on noticing his father coming exchanged gunshots with him, but the officer sustained injury and ran for his live.
It was gathered that the officer was not seen until Thursday morning when they found his lifeless body on the ground. He was said to have died as a result of the gunshot injury he sustained in the night.
Another resident of the area, on condition of anonymity, said after attacking Oyewole, the suspected robbers came to another person’s house in the area and took the person’s four-year-old boy hostage and told the mother to open the door, saying they would kill the boy if she refused to open the door.
He said after waiting at the door and moving around the premises with the boy for about 30 minutes without gaining access to the house, the hoodlums angrily hit the boy’s head with machete, injuring him.
When contacted the Police Public Relation Officer of the state police command, Mr. Femi Joseph, confirmed the killing and said the command had begun investigation into the matter.
The police spokesman said Oyewole was an officer attached to the Mobile Unit of the command, describing the late police officer as a disciplined and hard working policeman.
