Nigerian Judge Sentences Man To Death By Hanging For Stealing Phones, Wrist Watches And Money

 A judge, Hon. Justice Olabisi Akinlade has convicted a 25-year-old armed robber, Rasak Ogedengbeand sentenced him to death by hanging.  Ogedengbe attacked the family of one Mr Chukwujekwu who just returned from church at Ejigbo and carted away some of their valuables, which included money, wrist watches and phones.

The victim had gone to report at Ejigbo police station when he saw Ogedenge in the police van after the suspect had already been arrested by the police, Tribune reports.

The police searched the polythene bag with him and found some of the valuables stolen from the victim. Ogedengbe did not produce any witness and also pleaded not guilty to the offence but the prosecution had called two witnesses to testify and all their evidence were taken by the court.

While delivering her judgment, the presiding judge, Hon.Justice Olabisi Akinlade said that Ogedengbe was accused of criminal conspiracy and armed robbery under Section 403 and 402 of the criminal code, law of Lagos State 2003.

She said that the prosecution has been able to prove the elements of armed robbery and conspiracy and therefore found Ogedengbe guilty of both offences.

He was therefore sentenced to death by hanging.

Glee Star Mark Salling Arrested For Child Pornography Following Tip-off From His Ex-girlfriend

33 year old Mark Salling who plays Noah 'Puck' Puckerman in the hit FOX series Glee was arrested by LA Police on Tuesday morning after police raided his home in Sunland, California after they got a tip off from his ex-girlfriend. Cops searched the 33-year-old's computer and say they found more than a thousand indecent images of child sexual exploitation. The children found on his computer were said to be less than 16 years old.

He posted bail of about $20,000 later on the same day. Possession of more than 600 images can carry a punishment of up to five years in prison. His court date has been set for January 22.

According to CrimeWatchDaily who first reported the story, Salling didn't let police into his house at first, so they had to resort to use of battering rams before they could get into the house.

His computer and other electronic devices were reportedly seized by cops after Salling refused to tell them his password.

Tuesday's arrest was not the star's first brush with the law. In March it's believed he reached a $2.7million settlement with a woman who had sued him for sexual battery. Salling shot to fame playing Noah 'Puck' Puckerman in the hit FOX series Glee. He first appeared in 2008 and was a regular until season five.

Nigerian woman jailed 9yrs in the UK for burning lover's private parts with a hot iron

A Nigerian woman who burned a man's legs and genitals with a hot iron during sex has been jailed for nine years.

Kenya Alozie, 31, was having sex with a man in his 30s at an address in Plumstead, south-east London, on May 15 when she used a hot iron to assault him in what police describe as a "calculated attack".She also attacked the man with a broken bottle causing him a number of serious injuries including deep cuts and burns.

He has since undergone a number of hospital treatments and surgery.

Alozie, of no fixed abode, was sentenced at Woolwich Crown Court on Tuesday after being found guilty of GBH with intent.At the time of the attack, Alozie's student visa, that she obtained to study at Coventry University, was due to expire and she was due to return to her family in Nigeria at the end of May.

Police arrested her on May 24 just after she boarded a flight at Heathrow Airport and charged her with the offence the following day. Dectective  Duncan Clark from Greenwich police, said:

Alozie committed a calculated and pre-planned attack. She ensured she had a broken bottle to hand and a hot iron to strike the victim and seriously harmed him. The sentence imposed clearly reflects the seriousness of this extremely violent attack.

Woman stabs Pastor to Death in Calabar for Trying to Rape Her During Deliverance

Indeed, wonders shall never end! A pastor from Cross River State, identified as Pastor Oliver Akpan has been stabbed to death by a woman who claims he tried to r*pe her during a deliverance session.

According to reports, Pastor Akpan, married with six children, had long been suspected to sleep with some of his church members, both the married ones and the single ladies but unfortunately for him he met his match in the woman identified as Mrs. Ekamma, who is also married with two children.

Mrs Ekamma had gone to the Pastor to seek help over some spiritual attack she was facing and Pastor Akpan had recommended a three day dry fasting for the woman to be carried out in the church and on the final day, have a spiritual bath to ward off the evil spirit.

After going through the fast, the pastor led the woman to a stream to have the spiritual bath…

But he had other ideas in mind as he was said to have told the woman that part of the bath included having s*x with her but when she refused, he attempted to forcefully have his way with another man's wife.

As the woman tried to free herself, she allegedly picked up a sharp stick and stabbed him in the stomach, before running to the village to alert other members of the community.

By the time they got to the spot, the wounded pastor had lost consciousness as he bled profusely. He was rushed to a hospital where doctors confirmed he died before he was brought in.

The woman was initially arrested by police but was released on bail while investigation is still on going.

Woman arrested after boyfriend's decomposed body is found on her porch

Tammy Shereese Wright-Conner, 41, from Jacksonville, Florida, has been charged with murder after the decomposed body of boyfriend, Ronald Trotter, 48, was found in her porch covered in plastic bags and surrounded with air freshener. She is believed to have shot Trotter in May this year, asked a a friend to help her move the body.

The body which was so decomposed it's gender was not immediately ascertainable was discovered in the sealed room after about a week and a half in temperatures of 35C. Air fresheners filled the room in an attempt to mask the smell when animal control officers discovered the scene, after they were called in by neighbors who believed there was a dead animal on the property.

Trotter, who died from a gunshot wound to the chest, is believed to have gone to Wright-Conner's house after having a row with his wife during a family outing on May 25. His wife reported him missing on May 30 and told police that she believed he had gone to his girlfriend's house.

Police Lt. Steve Gallaher, of the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, said that at least one of Wright-Conner's friends reported that she had asked for help to move the body.

Female Banker Defrauds One Of Her Customers of N90 Million

A 32-year-old female banker, Adejumoke Anthony, who allegedly defrauded one of her customers N90 million, was on Wednesday arraigned in an Igbosere Magistrates' Court, Lagos.

Anthony, who resides at Lekki area of Lagos State, is standing trial on a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing.

The prosecutor, Cpl. Innocent Odugbo, told the court that the accused committed the offences sometime in March 2013, at Lekki, Lagos.

Odugbo said that the accused allegedly conspired with others still at large, to fraudulently obtain N90 million belonging to one Mr and Mrs Babatunde Oduewu, a customer at her bank.

The prosecutor said that the alleged offences contravened Sections 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused, however, pleaded innocent of the charges.

Section 285 provides three years imprisonment for anyone found guilty of stealing, while Section 409 provides two years imprisonment for anyone found guilty of conspiring with others to commit felony.

Counsel to the accused, Mr O. A. Ojo, urged the court to admit the accused to bail on liberal terms.

The Magistrate, Mrs A. O. Awogboro, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N5 million, with two sureties in like sum.

Awogboro said that one of the sureties must be a blood relation of the accused and the sureties must have reasonable means of livelihood and must be tax payers.

She also said that the sureties must be resident in Lagos State and their addresses verified by the court.

The case was adjourned till Jan. 26 for mention.

Nigerian Couple In UK Found Guilty Of Keeping Houseboy In Slavery For 24 Years

A Nigerian couple with British citizenship was found guilty on Tuesday of keeping a Nigerian immigrant enslaved for more than two decades, forcing him to work for no pay and threatening him with deportation if he tried to escape, prosecutors said.

Emanuel Edet, 61, and Antan Edet, 58, held their victim captive from the time he was brought to Britain when he was 14 years old, said the Crown Prosecution Service.

The husband and wife were convicted at Harrow Crown Court in northwest London on charges of child cruelty, slavery and assisting in illegal immigration.

They had told the teen when they brought him from Nigeria in 1989 that they would pay him and provide him with an education, prosecutors said.

Instead, the victim, now 40, was forced to cook, clean, garden and care for the couple's children without any pay for up to 17 hours a day, they said. He was forced to eat alone and typically slept on hallway floors, they said.

He got no education and had only very limited contact with his family and the outside world. The couple took his passport, and he had no identity documents, prosecutors said.

Prosecutor Damaris Lakin said the Edets told their captive he would be arrested as an illegal immigrant and deported if he left the house and contacted police.

"He believed this and felt trapped and completely dependent on the Edets," Lakin said in a statement. "Emanuel and Antan Edet have cruelly robbed this victim of 24 years of his life. They have treated him with complete contempt."

"This was a shocking case of modern day slavery," he said.

The convictions came on the first day of a two-day Trust Women conference in London on women's rights and human trafficking held by the Thomson Reuters Foundation.

Prosecutors said the Edets had changed the victim's name and added him to their family passport as their son when they brought him into Britain.

The man believed to be behind the Paris terror attacks reportedly died in a police morning raid, sources suggest.

Abdelhamid Abaaoud, 27, had been holed up in a flat in Saint-Denis, in the north of the city, but is believed to have been killed during a stand-off, according to senior intelligence officials. One woman was also killed after detonating her suicide belt and five people were arrested.

A Paris prosecutor said the suspected mastermind, and an accomplice in the Paris attacks, are not among those arrested. Four police officers were also injured in dramatic scenes in the French capital. Abaaoud, from Belgium, was named as the man behind the massacre of at least 129 people.

In what has now been described as the worst attack in French history since world war II, last night will be remembered for years to come, as Gun men numbering about eight carried out deadly coordinated attacks in six locations across the capital city of France.

At least there were 112 causalities reported at a concert hall where an American rock band performed. The Bataclan theatre is said to be where the highest casualties was recorded, as the theatre can house up to 1,500 people.

About 4 people were killed outside a stadium where the French and German team had a soccer game. In the course of the game, two explosions were heard. It was also said that the French president, Francois Hollander and German Foreign Minister were present in stadium when the bombs went off. The French president was evacuated and was taken to the interior ministry which is said to be near the Stade De France stadium.

About 19 people were reportedly killed in a local Cambodian restaurant, Le Petit, with Ak47 weilding terrorists screaming "Allahu Akbar" and opened fire.

Many eye witnesses at the theatre reported that about Four men attacked the hall, shooting at the crowd for 10 - 15 minutes. The gun men wore no masks and heard shouting "This is for Syria" and " Allah Akbar (God is great in Arabic)".

Two of the terrorists blew themselves up in the stadium and one at the restaurant. It was also learnt that the four gunmen who attacked the Baltacan Theatre where the casualty is highest all blew themselves up.

The American band, Eagles of Death metal are still searching for their crew members and some of their band crews have not been accounted for.

After he was evacuated from the Stadium, Francois Hollande declared a state of emergency in a national broadcast. This is the first declaration of state of emergency since world war II. He also announced the closure of all France's borders. additional 1,500 army re-inforcements were deployed to Paris to assist the security operatives over there.

When An 'Evil Spirit' Pushes A 50 Year Old Man Into Raping a 2 Year Old Baby

According to Daily Post reports, one Okon Michael, 50, an indigene of Mbak Ekpe in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom state, who raped a two-year-old girl has confessed to the crime saying he was under the influence of an evil spirit.

While being paraded on Wednesday at the Ikot Akpan Police Headquarters of the state alongside other suspects arrested for various offences, the man who spoke to journalists said he didn't know what came over him.

Fielding questions from newsmen, Michael further insisted that he was under the influence of an evil spirit when he committed the crime.

"Even as I am standing before you, I do not know what came over me and what had really happened. Someone came to my house and told me something serious was going to happen to me but I did not take it seriously," the 50-year-old noted.

Both he and the evil spirit should be flogged with hot iron and locked up for a very long time.

Pakistani woman dies after being set ablaze by ex-lover for rejecting marriage proposal

A 20 year old Pakistani woman, Sonia Bibi, died after a rejected suitor set her on fire for refusing his marriage proposal. She was admitted to a hospital last month, where she told police that her former lover had doused her with petrol and set her alight for turning down his proposal.

Sonia Bibi is pictured above on October 23rd. Medical staff had originally thought she would recover from her injuries.

The incident took place in a remote village of Multan district in central Punjab province. About 45 to 50 per cent of her body had been burned in the attack. Her injuries became infected and ultimately killed her. Police have since arrested a 24-year-old suspect.

Gunmen In Bayelsa Kidnaps Pastor, Demands N300m As Ransom, N200k As Money For Phone Calls

Such madness! A pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, New Anointing Chapel in Yenagoa, Bayelsa, Mark Christmas, has been kidnapped by unknown gunmen in his hometown.

The pastor's wife, Evelyn Christmas, said her husband was kidnapped with two other persons on October 18.

She said the incident happened in their hometown, Biseingbene, Ekeremor Local Government Area, Bayelsa. Mrs. Christmas said her husband was invited to the community for a meeting by unknown persons on the fateful day.

"When he got to the community, he found out that the invitation was not only false but a devilish plan to kidnap him," she said.

Mrs. Christmas said the pastor had stayed over two weeks in their custody as they demanded N200, 000 for all their phone calls and N300 million as ransom.

"It is over two weeks and I have not heard or seen my husband but some of our family members, who live in the village, told me that they spoke with them.

"I planned to contact the police, but the family members said that I should not involve the police to avoid incurring more danger.

"The reason is that my husband might be killed by the hoodlums if the police is involved in the matter," she said.

Mrs. Christmas described the situation as "very painful".

She said she prays her husband comes home alive.

The Police Public Relation Office in Bayelsa, Asinim Butswat, said the family had not reported the matter to the police.

"They have not reported the incident to us, but if they come to us, we are ready to mobilise ourselves," Mr. Butswat said.

Custom Officer's Wife Arrested for Buying 4 Day-Old Twin Babies for N500,000

An officer of the Nigeria Customs Service and his wife have been arrested by the police in Ogun State for allegedly buying a set of 4 day-old twin babies for N500,000 in the Sango Ota area of the state.

Punch Metro reports that the officer, identified only as Azeez, and his wife were arrested by the Sango Police Division last Thursday and the babies recovered from them. They have now been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Command headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta.

Azeez had confessed to the crime in his statement to the police. He had allegedly paid the sum to
obtain the babies when his wife did not give birth to a second child after 23 years.

A police source told Punch:

"The incident happened last Thursday. The police got a tip-off that the couple had gone to Ibadan, Oyo State, to buy twin babies for N500,000. We then moved in on them and discovered it was true.

The twins were just four days old on the day of the arrest. We have not seen the parents yet.

The customs man said in his statement that he and his wife already had a child together but they had tried to have a second child for 23 years and so they decided to purchase the twins. The suspect told the police that he paid N500, 000 for the babies. The babies had been with the police until Friday, when they were transferred to Abeokuta.

The suspects were taken to the anti-kidnapping section of the SCID. It is possible that the parents of the babies connived with the suspects because they have refused to show up since the day of the arrest. But the babies are doing very fine."

The Ogun State Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the arrest. He added that investigations were still ongoing. He said:

 "The arrest is true. The case has been transferred to the SCID, and it is being handled by the Anti-human trafficking department. The suspects are still undergoing investigation. During our investigations, we will get across to the parents and find out the circumstances that led to the disappearance of their babies.

We will also get across to the NCS authorities to show the level of complicity of their officer. I cannot disclose the suspect's name, because we are still investigating. He was arrested with the wife.

The Public Relations Officer, Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit, Zone A, Ikeja, Lagos, Ejesieme Uche, when contacted, referred PUNCH Metro to the Ogun Area Command spokesperson, Usman Abdullahi.

"He will be in a better position to confirm or debunk this," he added.

Abdullahi, however, had yet to reply to a text message sent to his phone on the incident as of press time.

Protest as teacher flogs student to death in Ibadan

Students of IMG Secondary School, Oke Ado, Ibadan, on Wednesday, went on rampage following the death of one of their colleagues allegedly flogged to death by a teacher.

Tribune Newspaper reports that the student slumped and gave up the ghost as a result of the severe punishment from a teacher for arriving late to school.

Invaluable properties of the school were destroyed by the students who took to protest before the members of Nigerian police force came to rescue the situation.

The identity of the deceased could not be ascertained as at press time while policemen had cordoned off the area.

An eye witnesses who claimed anonymity said;

"trouble started when the student arrived school after classes had commenced for the day, he reportedly told the teacher he came late due to illness."
"At that point," the eye witness added, "the principal, who was passing by asked the teacher the cause of the discussion."
The principal allegedly ordered the teacher to flog the student for coming late and in the process of the flogging, the student slumped. "All our efforts to save the student proved abortive,'' the eyewitness added.

No fewer than 10 fully armed policemen were seen on surveillance at the premises of the school with three of their vehicles parked near the school gates.
