I Gave a Judge N450,000, Not Bribe - Senate President Saraki's Lawyer

I Gave a Judge N450,000, Not Bribe - Senate President Saraki's Lawyer

Mr. Paul Usoro

Paul Usoro, one of the senior lawyers representing the Senate President, Abubakar Bukola Saraki at the Code of Conduct Tribunal has been linked with the alleged bribery of a judge under EFCC investigation.

One of the senior lawyers being investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for allegedly bribing judges, Mr. Paul Usoro, SAN, has said that he gave the sum of N450.000 as a gift to Justice James Agbadu-Fishim. He said the money which was given in two installments was a bribe.

Disclosing this to Vanguard, an EFCC source, who was privy to the statement the lawyer made to the commission, said the funds were paid into the judge’s account when he was traveling for a long vacation in August 2014 and during the burial of a relative of the latter in 2015.

The accused, who was said to have been questioned by the commission on October 27, 2016, further informed the commission that he had never appeared before the judge, who is of the National Industrial Court, NIC.

In addition, the source quoted Usoro to have told the commission that he knew Justice Agbadu-Fishim well before he was elevated to the Bench when he was in the telecommunications sub-sector.

Continuing, Usoro was said to have claimed in the statement that apart from Agbadu-Fishim and Justice Kanyip J, he had no relationship with any NIC judge.
On Justice Kanyip, the source said, Usoro claimed to have known him when the latter called to correct him on statements made in a presentation on NIC, some years back to Judges of the Federal High Court.

The source, however, said Usoro in his statement said his law firm had 32 pending and eight concluded matters before the NIC, adding that he does not personally supervise any of the NIC matters being handled by his firm.

Omg!!! See The Drug Baron Caught Hiding 450g of Cocaine In His Anus at The Murtala Muhammed International (Photo)

Aniebue Nnamma was arrested after inserting drugs in his anus

A drug baron who inserted cocaine in his anus has been apprehended by the NDLEA at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

A drug baron, Aniebue Nnamma and four others have been arrested by men of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, while attempting to export narcotics with a total weight of 8.8kg to different countries.

According to Punch, Nnamma, 50, a clothier at the Aswani Market Lagos, inserted eleven wraps of cocaine weighing 460g in his anus.

A statement by the NDLEA spokesperson, Mr. Mitchell Ofoyeju, said a second suspect, Nzube Chukwudi (37) from Anambra State, who was travelling on a Ghanaian passport with the name, Sokpe Zubbye, ingested 955g of cocaine.

Both Nnamma and Chukwudi were travelling to China, a country with a law that prescribes a death penalty for drug traffickers.

A 38-year-old musical instrument trader at the Alaba International Market, Lagos, Ugwuezumba Arinze, was apprehended with 2.130kg of methamphetamine, which he ingested. He was on his way to Indonesia.

The NDLEA said the fourth suspect, Obinna Obi (30), an aluminium fabricator from Umuahia, Abia State, had in his possession 5.2kg of Indian hemp destined for Doha, Qatar.

Nnamma blamed his involvement in drug trafficking on financial troubles.
He explained that he initially considered ingesting the drugs but feared for his life.

“I was afraid of swallowing the drug so I inserted the drugs in my anus. I was afraid it might burst in my stomach. Poor patronage in my business and family problems turned me into a pauper. But now I regret everything,” he said.

Chukwudi on the other hand, said he was promised N1m to smuggle the drug.
According to him, he worked in China as a freight forwarder.

He said the recession in Nigeria made it difficult for him to pay his bills and could not resist the lure of drug trafficking.

“Since I live in China, I felt it would be easy for me to go through security checks but unfortunately I was caught,” he said.
Obi explained that he had nothing to do with the hemp that was found in his possession.

According to him, he was an unwitting drug mule.

“My friend gave me a bag to deliver to Doha but during the screening of passengers, NDLEA officials discovered Indian hemp inside it,” he said.
All four suspects are under investigation as the agency said they would be charged to court soon.

The Chairman of NDLEA, Col. Muhammad Mustapha Abdallah (retd.) said drug couriers must see beyond the monetary gains of drug trafficking as they might be courting death.

Abdallah has promised that the agency’s men would remain watchful in intercepting drugs and apprehending traffickers at all entry and exit points.

West is alleged to have received the said amount from one Emmanuel Dike at different times in 2013 for payment of a bungalow. However, the complainant later discovered that the property had been sold to another person while his efforts to recover his money did not succeed.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge when read to him and was granted bail in the sum of N1m and two sureties in like sum.

Also, Justice Agumoh convicted and sentenced one Chief Felix Amadi to 7 years imprisonment on a one-count charge bordering on obtaining money under false pretence brought against him by EFCC.

The convict was first arraigned on March 31, 2014 and he pleaded not guilty and the matter went into full trial. He was specifically tried for offering a plot of land for sale without granting the buyer possession of the land.

He sold the landed property for a sum of N17.6m. Although in the course of his trial, he restituted the entire sum to the buyer of the land, nonetheless, Justice Agumoh still found him guilty of the charge preferred against him and sentenced him to 7 years imprisonment without an option of fine.

8 players to be sent out of Manchester United by Mourinho in January

Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho, is getting ready to carry out a drastic clear-out in January, as he seeks to arrest the slump the team is going through.

The Portuguese, who replaced Louis van Gaal in the summer, is coming under increased pressure following a miserable run of results.

United won their first three Premier League fixtures under Mourinho, but have only managed one victory in their last seven outings. This leaves the Red Devils eight points off the top.

Mourinho will try to change things around, when the next transfer window opens in less than a month.

According to The Sun, Mourinho is eyeing a £30million move for Atletico Madrid defender, Diego Godin, to help sort out his defensive crisis.

The report further states that the former Chelsea boss, has drawn up a list of eight players that will leave Old Trafford.

Marcos Rojo and Matteo Darmian are named as certain departures. Bastian Schweinsteiger is also expected to leave, despite returning to first-team training.

The future of Phil Jones and Michael Carrick is also up in the air.

NDA Enlistment: 4 Unfit Cadets Die in Kaduna

NDA Enlistment: 4 Unfit Cadets Die in Kaduna

File Photo

4 military cadets have passed away in the course of an energy-tasking training exercise associated with the system.

Controversies are currently trailing a recruitment exercise being carried out by the Nigerian Defence Academy, NDA, over the death of four Cadets who were recently enlisted into the institution for intensive military training exercises.

The Cadets were said to have died after medical complications arising from the intensive rigorous exercises which exposed their unfitness a few weeks after their admission. The death of the four Cadets which was said to have jolted the leadership of the institution, resulted in the authorities, instituting a panel to investigate the medical and physical condition of other Cadets undergoing military training in the institution.

At the end of the panel’s sitting, the investigators who included physical training experts, physiotherapists, psychologists and medical doctors, discovered that a sizeable number of the cadets were suffering from severe medical deficiency.

Further investigation by Saturday Vanguard revealed that the situation was so bad that over 50 Cadets were discovered to be suffering from life-threatening diseases. Tongues have started wagging as to how this large number of medically unfit Cadets were enlisted.

However, a correspondent was told by sources close to the Academy that about 53 Cadets having been screened and found to be medically unfit had been listed to be expelled.

The NDA Board is expected to approve the recommendation by the Academy. It was learnt that the authorities may have taken the stand to have the medically sick Cadets expelled because of the fear of likely outrage from the public if more deaths were recorded.

Observers are however miffed that a military institution like the NDA could allow itself to be bamboozled by politicians into bending its admission rules.

Shocking!!! Chidinma Okeke Goes Missing After Her Lesbian S*x Tape Leaked, Family Cries Out for Help

Former Miss Anambra, Chidinma Okeke

Sir Jeremiah Okeke, the father of Former Miss Anambra, Chidinma Okeke has cried out for help as her daughter has reportedly gone missing.

It seems like the controversy generated by Chidinma Okeke's leaked lesbian s*x tape has taken a new twist as the family has said the beauty queen is nowhere to be found.

The 65-year-old father of the 19-year-old 300-level student of Medical Laboratory at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, has revealed that the whereabouts of her daughter is unknown.

Speaking to Saturday Sun, Chidinma’s father, Sir Jeremiah Okeke said: “Chidinma is my own daughter but there is nothing much I can say about this because there is a lifestyle adopted by my family. We don’t foment troubles.

The father in the phone conversation continued in a voice laden with emotion: “I, as the father, have committed everything to God in prayers. Human being cannot fight our cause but only God in heaven. We are in serious prayers for God to intervene. I don’t have anybody on earth except God.”

In response to a question raised as to prior reports by the beauty queen about being sexually harrassed, Mr Okeke replied: “I am confused about the whole thing as of now. It is only when I set my eyes on my daughter that I will know about all these. As it stands now, I don’t know where my daughter is.”
He further noted that he suspects nobody in the blackmail.

He said: “There are many ways God is fighting my battle. I was only five years when my father died. I don’t know whether I got up to six years before my mother died too. I don’t have anybody but it is only God that sustained me all through. It was same God that assisted me to raise and train all my children. All the family members are praying.

“As it stands now, my daughter is still a small girl. I don’t know whether she is still alive or dead. But all I know is that God will prove Himself worthy to fight His children’s battle. I don’t have much to say for now.

“So many people have told me to take certain actions but me and my God are still communicating through prayers.

There are several ways God reveals some things to me. I am not suspecting anybody but only God knows who is behind that; whether he is human or spirit. I’m leaving whoever that is behind it to his conscience. The life of my daughter is most important to me now. Wherever she is, let her be alive for me.”

Omg!!! Meet the 30-year-old Millionaire Armed Robber Arrested in Kogi State (Photos)

Omg!!! Meet the 30-year-old Millionaire Armed Robber Arrested in Kogi State (Photos)

Zakeri Isiaka

Policemen in Kogi state have arrested a notorious millionaire criminal who has been terrorizing citizens in the state.

A deadly and notorious millionaire armed robber arrested in Kogi state has confessed. The man born in Kogi state has narrated that he would have been a Chief Security Officer to a governor in his state if not for hard luck. Read the story as according to Saturday Punch.
***********

At 30, Zakeri Isiaka is a millionaire and a frightening one. In political circles in Kogi State, Saturday PUNCH learnt that a mere mention of his name sends shivers down the spines of those who are familiar with his activities.

To Kogi State indigenes, Isiaka is a dreaded political thug, who killed at will. To the police, he is a combination of a daring robber and killer but to his family, he is the husband to nine wives and a father to 15 children.

But the negative descriptions are all inaccurate, according to Isiaka’s statement to the police. He said he was a freedom fighter “out to rescue Kogi State from the clutches of evil men controlling the affairs of the state.”

Asked about a number of killings which he allegedly carried out in Kogi State, Isiaka said those he was accused of killing were his political foes and criminals who were after his life.

According to a source, he got on the radar of the police when he allegedly led a gang that attacked operatives of the Inspector-General of Police Response Team in July 2016 and snatched a rifle from them.

But on October 23, a three-month operation to track him down paid off when members of the IRT cornered him on the Okene–Akure Expressway and apprehended him while he was on his way to Akure, Ondo State.

He was transferred to the Force Headquarters, Abuja, where he promptly gave a detailed account of his operations, which spanned several states.

A police source told Saturday PUNCH that Isiaka’s gang were responsible for many cases of kidnaps and robberies in Kogi and other North Central states.

When Isiaka was arrested, the police recovered 15 rifles along with several magazines and ammunition from him. One of the guns was the one his gang allegedly snatched from the IRT.

Saturday PUNCH learnt that the day the gang snatched the gun, operatives of the IRT were in the state to rescue a kidnap victim, Edward Amedu, being held in a forest camp by Isiaka’s men.

When the gang sighted the police team, he was said to have ordered his men to open fire on their approaching vehicle.

The police source said that in the process, two operatives of the IRT sustained bullet wounds. At the end of the operation, the IRT had lost a rifle to Isiaka’s team.

Two of his men were said to have been arrested at the time of the operation. They later led the police to where the victim was rescued.

Isiaka, a native of Odu-Ochelle in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, allegedly started off as a robber before joining militants in the Niger Delta and later became a political thug, who at a point, took control of his entire local government area.

Isiaka said he was once a farmer, who laboured for eight years till he could no longer endure the suffering and travelled to Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where he joined the group of militant leader, Ateke Tom.

He said, “I dropped out of secondary school and had nothing else to do but to go into farming at Iseyin, Oyo State. I did that till I went to Port Harcourt and started living with a young man. One day, I went to a joint where I normally smoked Indian hemp and saw some men discussing there. I realised they were militants involved in oil theft.

“I approached them and told them I was interested in joining them. They gave me the beating of my life. They accused me of being an informant. I was beaten for almost one week before one of them, who said he was one of Ateke Tom’s boys, finally said I could join them.

“He taught me how to handle guns and we burst many pipelines together. I was making almost N3m in each operation. After making enough money, I moved to Abuja and built a house. I bought some cars and started a car dealership. When I left the creeks, I came back with three guns, which I took to my village in Kogi.

“The sitting governor of Kogi State at the time, had given guns to thugs in the state. Because these same thugs killed my blood brothers during a disagreement, I had to keep the guns in Kogi so that I could use them to protect myself.”

Isiaka said during the 2011 governorship election in Kogi State between Idris Wada  and Prince Abubakar Audu, he went home to “protect” the votes of his people.

According to him, the guns he brought back from the Niger Delta came in handy. He said despite this, one of his friends was killed during the election.
The suspect said, “After that election, I came back to Abuja and continued my business. I am a kind man, I even bought motorcycles for people as gifts. I first married three wives.

“Before the 2015 election, thugs of the Peoples Democratic Party and All Progressives Congress had a clash. I had to come back home and fight on the side of the APC. That was when the APC knew that I had become a powerful person. They realised they needed me.

“During the presidential election, Prince Audu gave me N30m to work for his party.  But my younger brother, Farouk, was killed by PDP thugs in front of my father. He was picked up in his room where he slept beside his wife. They killed him and took his body away.

“When it was time for the governorship election, Prince Audu called me again and mobilised me with N20m and promised that he would make me the Chief Security Officer of the state if he won.

“He said he would make me Kogi’s youth leader and I would even be in charge of collecting revenue on farm produce in the state.

“My boys and I worked very hard. I was almost killed when I was ambushed by a PDP thug. So, I would have become the state’s CSO if Prince Audu had not died.”

Isiaka claimed that when Governor Yahaya Bello assumed office, he had made overtures to him, indicating that he could be useful to his government but got no reply.

According to him, some individuals might have scuttled his chances because of his closeness to the late Audu.

Isiaka said, “The people I fought were PDP thugs, who wanted to kill me and since APC came into power I have called on all my boys who are into armed robbery to stop because I have repented.

“Few weeks before the last governorship election, I communicated with some of my boys from Okene, who used to rob in my area.  I advised them to quit because I discovered that the people of Kogi State wanted change and they were accepting what I was telling them. I knew that if APC won, my boys and I would enjoy.

“But they refused, so, I tricked them. I told them that I had a job for them and when they came to my town, I took them to a hotel. While they were inside, my boys went to where they parked their operational vehicle and stole all their guns.

“I control all the APC thugs in Kogi State and since I repented, I have been seriously against crime.   Any of my boys who got involved in kidnapping, I personally arrested and handed over to the police but in most cases the police would release them after collecting money.

The police in Kogi State can confirm this.  "After all I did, the state governor (Bello) did not appreciate my efforts. He believes that I am still in support of Prince Audu’s son, Mohammed, but that is not true.  My loyalty is to APC.”

Speaking about some of the robbery operations he was involved in, Isiaka said few weeks before the governorship election in Kogi in 2015, he and his gang robbed a vehicle carrying a huge amount of money in Abuja.   He said he made over N50m from the operation and that he narrowly escaped death as one of his gang members attempted to kill him.

According to him, one Dan brought the job to him.

“He told me that some politicians were moving money around Abuja and it seemed that the money was meant for election.  We planned our operation and we ambushed the driver and snatched the vehicle.

“After the operation, I kept three Ghana-Must-Go bags for myself and I gave Dan and others involved two bags to share.  But while we were sharing the money, Dan, who had a gun with him, wanted to shoot me. He ended up shooting himself.”

The suspect said in another operation in Okene, Kogi State, his gang made N10m.

He said he lost seven of his rifles to the police in Niger State after they arrested his younger brother, who gave one of his guns to a friend. The friend then used it to snatch a car.

According to Isiaka, he gave the guns to his manager for safe-keeping but said when he was away for the election, his younger brother decided to rent out one of the guns to his friend.

“When my brother and his friend were arrested, he led the police to my car stand in Abuja where police seized all the vehicles in it and they also carried away my seven rifles.”

Despite his situation, Isiaka has a word of advice to the government on how to curtail crime.

He said amnesty should be offered to anyone carrying a gun in the state, saying that there are too many guns on the loose.

EFCC Arrests APC National Legal Adviser, Muiz Banire, Quizzed For 7hrs, Passport Seized

EFCC Arrests APC National Legal Adviser, Muiz Banire, Quizzed For 7hrs, Passport Seized

Dr. Muiz Banire (SAN)

Earlier accused of questionable money transfer to an indicted Judge, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Thursday quizzed the National Legal Adviser of the All Progressives Congress, Dr. Muiz Banire (SAN), for about seven hours fresh report according Punch Newspaper suggests.

It was also gathered that the EFCC also seized his passport before releasing him on administrative bail.

Banire,  a former Lagos State Commissioner for Transport and now the Legal Adviser to the ruling All progressives Congress, APC landed self in EFCC trouble over alleged the alleged bribery of a judge.

The senior advocate was said to have transferred about N500, 000 to Justice Terseer Agbadu-Fishim of the National Industrial Court

A source said, “While detectives were probing Justice Fishim’s account, they discovered that Banire deposited money into the judge’s account. So, we invited him and he did not deny it. He only said the money was not a bribe.

“Banire was quizzed by the EFCC for several hours and his passport was seized from him. He will return for more questioning as investigations continue.”
Attempts to speak with Banire on Friday proved abortive as his phone indicated that it was switched off.

However, in a text message he sent before he was invited by the EFCC, the senior advocate admitted to giving the judge money.

He, however, maintained that the money was not a bribe but he was merely helping the judge who was broke at the time.

Banire wrote, “Thank you for clarification sought. I have no official relationship with the said judge. I have never appeared before him in any matter and in fact, in my entire professional career, I have only recently a month ago appeared at the industrial court before a separate judge.

“He was an old friend in the 90s, who only called me up some years back to seek financial assistance due to his mother’s death. Beyond that, I have not seen him in the last 17 years.”

SHOCKER: Supreme Court's Secret Account Where Bribe Proceeds Likely Kept UNCOVERED, Official On The Run Arrested

SHOCKER: Supreme Court's Secret Account Where Bribe Proceeds Likely Kept UNCOVERED, Official On The Run Arrested

File Photo

The Nation - A Supreme Court’s bank account said to  contain billions of naira has attracted  the  attention  of  the Department of State Security Services ( DSS).

The organization is currently probing seven judges, two of them justices of the apex court, for alleged corruption.

The account, The Nation gathered authoritatively yesterday ,is  being operated outside the civil service procedures.

Money from it was also said to have been withdrawn regularly to fund foreign travels of some judges.

The agency is now investigating how and for what reason (s)  the account was opened.

Supreme Court justices and even staff of the apex court are believed to draw from it.

Investigators suspect that the dollars seized from the homes of some of the judges under probe may have come from the account.

The  DSS has already restricted the movement of the Registrar of the Supreme Court, Ahmed Saleh and some top officials to the country on account of its investigation of the suspicious account.

Also restricted  are the Director of Finance, Muhammed Abdulrahman Sharif and Rilwanu Lawal.

Only last Thursday, the Federal Government filed a nine-count charge of diversion of N2.2billion against the three top officials.

A highly-placed source said: “In line with the current investigation of some judges, the DSS has discovered a suspicious account in the Supreme Court. The modalities for the operation of the account allegedly against the extant financial regulations were being probed by the security agency.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspicious account was used to cater for foreign trips of some judges, including a few ones who were arrested by the DSS.

“The remittances into the account were in billions of Naira. There is a strong suspicion by the DSS that the dollars seized from the residences of some of these judges were drawn from the suspicious account.

“Some principal officers have been interrogated by the secret service. The manner in which the account was operated was suspected to be outside the extant laws in the civil service.

“It is left to the civil servants to prove that the processes of opening the account and managing it were legal and transparent. Otherwise, they have a case to answer.”

Another source  said  one of the officials was intercepted at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport , Abuja while trying  to travel  out of the country for a conference.

“None of the officials can travel out until the ongoing investigation is completed,” the source said.

N300bn Looted Funds Tied Up In Legal Logjam

N300bn Looted Funds Tied Up In Legal Logjam

lady-justice

The Federal Government plans to inject about N300 billion of recovered looted funds into the 2016 budget.

However, much of the funds is currently tied up in legal logjam, according to the Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media and Publicity, Mr.Laolu Akande.

Akande spoke during the second Presidential Economic Communication Workshop in Abuja.

“There is a list of how much has been recovered so far in terms of naira or dollars or euro. We have it stated out there,” he said.
“I think they are still tied down in legal issues. So, even though we know that this money was stolen, we still don’t have access to it because there are legal issues involved.

”There is a large percentage of the budget, about N300 billion that is going to be funded by the recoveries. So, in 2016 budget, there is a provision of about N300 billion, so part of the funds will be used to fund the budget.

“We have budgeted for about N300 billion to come out of the recovery to fund the budget and you know the budget has a lot that will impact the lives of people. So, what we are saying is that we hope that we make up to that, but I am not sure we have recovered as much in terms of the hard cash.

“ We have not made as much as we hoped and this is how we hope to use it. Monies have to go through certain processes before they are released to us and for now, the monies are tied up in legal processes.”

The Vice President’s spokesman also revealed that the federal government has selected 200,000 unemployed graduates and youths under the first phase of its graduate employment scheme.

They will be on a salary of N30,000 monthly and will also receive a tablet each. The programme will run for two years.

It will take off in nine states.

He said: “On the 500,000 unemployed graduates, I want to say that we have selected the first batch of 200,000 of them. The first 150,000 of them are going to be helping out to teach in their communities.

“30,000 of them are going to be working as agricultural extension workers in their communities and 20,000 of them will be doing healthcare related job in their communities.

“So, we have selected the first 200,000 and right now, they are being screened for the BVN so that their pay which is N30,000 per month will go directly into their own account and that is the only reason why they are screened.

He further said: “We have not notified them yet because we want to first of all, screen everybody and as soon as the screening is done, those selected will be notified.

Giving a breakdown of how they were selected, Akande said: “The way it was done and which is the way the entire 500,000 would be done is that we took 40 per cent of mass applications per state and then we are also giving particular consideration to the North East because of what happened there.

“The 40 per cent will be shared and then the 60 per cent will be shared amongst those in the northeast and states with low applications”.

Akande also dismissed the claim that those to benefit from the Conditional Cash Transfer for the Poor and Vulnerable have to undergo online registration.

He said: “For the conditional cash transfer for the poor and the vulnerable, there will be no online internet application of any kind. We are not going to ask the poor and vulnerable to go and register online, that is not the plan.
