Uzbekistan Jails Ex-president’s Daughter For Fraud

Uzbekistan said today that it has jailed the eldest daughter of late president Islam Karimov, Gulnara Karimova -once a prominent socialite, fashion designer and singer  after charging her with massive fraud and money laundering.

In a statement the Uzbekistan Prosecutor-General’s Office said that “Gulnara Karimova has been charged” with crimes including fraud, money laundering and concealing foreign currency “and she has been held behind bars”.

Karimova, 45, is the eldest daughter of the late authoritarian president of the secretive ex-Soviet
Central Asian state, who died following a reported stroke in September last year.

She was once tipped to succeed her father and was a high-profile figure, serving in diplomatic posts including as ambassador to Spain and Uzbekistan’s permanent representative to the United Nations in Geneva.

It said these included London properties worth £22.9 million ($29.95 million) and hotels in Dubai worth $67.4 million.

Among the long list of allegations against Karimova are that she fraudulently acquired assets worth $595 million and received $869.3 million in kickbacks that were paid into offshore accounts.

She has been reportedly under house arrest in the country since 2014 after publicly feuding with her mother and her younger sister Lola on Twitter. She did not attend her father’s funeral.

Swiss prosecutors reportedly questioned her in Tashkent in December, quashing rumours of her possible death.

Little Charlie Gard's Parents Announces He's Dead

Eleven-month-old Charlie Gard, whose short life captured the hearts of the world, has died, just a week before his first birthday.

Charlie suffered from a rare genetic condition which saw him in hospital for the majority of his short life.

His parents, Connie Yates and Chris Gard, fought a lengthy and emotional legal battle to take their
severely ill baby son to the US for treatment, which was denied by judges.

Charlie's mother, Connie, said: 'Our beautiful little boy has gone, we are so proud of you Charlie.'

Yesterday courts denied his parents the chance to bring their son home to die and he was taken to a hospice. Charlie's plight has seen hundreds of supporters - called Charlie's Army - lending their voices and money to see the child given treatment with £1.35 million raised on an online fund-raising site.

Pope Francis and US president Donald Trump weighed in. MAY HIS SOUL REST IN PEACE. This is pretty sad!

Nigerians In Diaspora Call For Out Of Country Voting System

The world body of the Nigerians Living in the Diaspora (NIDO), has appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to extend the voting right to Nigerians living in the Diaspora through Out of Country Voting system (OCV).

INEC Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Mr Oluwole Osaze-Uzzi in a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja, noted that the call was made during NIDO delegation visit to INEC.

Osaze-Uzzi quoted the leader of the team and Chairman, NIDO Asia, Prof. Emenike Ejiogu, as saying they were at INEC to seek inclusion of people in the diaspora in the country’s voting system.

Ejiogu appealed to the Commission to consider taking the ballot box beyond the shores of Nigeria, to enable persons living in the Diaspora enjoy the right to vote.

He noted that the number of Nigerians Living in the Diaspora was significant to the Nigeria’s voting and electoral process.

Ejiogu, said that the body could actively engage the National Assembly to influence the needed dialogue on diaspora voting.

It noted that the body representatives were drawn from the leadership of NIDO from Europe, Asia, Africa and America.

The acting Chairman of INEC and National Commissioner, Mr Adedeji Soyebi said INEC has been studying the matter of out of the country voting with keen interest.

Soyebi said it was rather unfortunate that the current legislation did not permit out of the country voting in Nigeria.

He said it was the wish of the Commission to ensure every interested person wishing to vote was given the opportunity..

He said that in spite of the wish “there is hardly anything the Commission could do” unless some amendments to the electoral law were made.

George Clooney Suing Over Pictures Of His Twins Making Magazine Cover

George and Amal Clooney are ready to defend their infant twins in court ... as they vow to sue a French magazine that published pics of them.

The mag, "Voici," published shots on Friday of the Clooneys cradling Alexander and Ella. They appeared to be in a backyard, and George says that's exactly what happened ... and he's pissed.

In a statement he says, "Over the last week photographers from Voici magazine scaled our fence, climbed our tree and illegally took pictures of our infants inside our home. Make no mistake the
photographers, the agency and the magazine will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law."

Assuming it went down as George said ... he's got a strong case. Under French law, public figures like George can only be photographed while going about their public lives and only for journalistic purposes.

Even in Italy -- where George and Amal were in the photos -- photogs cannot peep into a private residence or take photos of people or objects hidden from normal visibility.

George says, "The safety of our children demands" he go forward with a lawsuit.

The magazine responded saying the pictures published "are a response to a public demand" and that the pictures "do not put in danger Mr. Clooney, his wife or their kids."

Samsung Overtakes Apple To Become World’s Biggest Phone Maker

Samsung Electronics has overtaken Apple to become the world’s largest maker of mobile phones, memory chips and the most profitable tech firm.
The South Korean tech giant's quarterly earnings was released on Thursday and the figures show that Samsung is on course to overtake Apple as the world’s most profitable tech firm. The firm said huge sales of its new Galaxy S8 smartphone and demand for its memory chips were behind the jump in April-June and predicted another blockbuster report for the current quarter to September.
Samsung pulled in 61 trillion won ($54.8 billion) in revenue and 14 trillion won ($12.6 billion) in
profit for the three months ending June 31. Apple will release its earnings for the same period next week. Analysts expect the Apple to report revenue of $44.9 billion and an operating profit of $10.5 billion.
Though Samsung is the world's leading smartphone maker, it was bumper demand for memory chips that drove the company's earnings to new heights. The chips unit posted 8 trillion won ($7.2 billion) in operating profit, or nearly half the group's total. Analysts expect the momentum to continue for the rest of the year, driven by the release of Samsung's next smartphone, the Galaxy Note 8, and sustained demand for memory chips.
However, Greg Roh, an analyst at HMC Investment Securities, told AFP: "Samsung has surpassed its rivals for now but Apple usually sees little fluctuation in its profits whereas Samsung's profits fluctuate largely on memory chip prices."

Man Allegedly Begs Female Neighbour To Allow His Teen Son Have Sex With Her Daughter To Test The Condition Of His Penis

Wonders shall never end. A man allegedly pleaded with his female neighbour to allow his teen son have sex with her teen daughter so they could find out if his penis is still working fine.
It all started when the son raised alarm that a middle-aged man identified as Taoheeb had touched him in a suspicious manner as he walked along the road in Idimu and this caused his penis to shrink. It was also claimed that it made him unable to have an erection. This caused serious commotion and the suspect was attacked. Police intervened in time to rescue him and take him to the Area M Command, Idimu, Lagos
At the Police Command, the suspect denied tampering with the victim's penis and said he was ready
to accept whatever punishment was given to him if it was discovered that indeed he tampered with the boy's penis.
P.M. Express gathered that someone suggested that the boy should go and test his manhood with a sex worker, but his parents objected, saying it was against their religious belief and he was too young for sex workers. The father then called the female neighbour aside and begged her to allow his son test the efficacy of his penis on her teen daughter.
The neighbour then asked the man what will happen if his son impregnates her daughter in the course of testing, considering he's not old enough to get married. The boy's father was unable to answer and this amused spectators.
The father eventually took his son home and when the boy’s parents did not return to the station, police released the suspect.

“We just finished a meeting with the acting president and the three service chiefs. We agreed that they should move back to the command centre again and see what are the things happening there. We have also agreed that we should get more surveillance devices, cameras that will be able to see distant attackers coming to the position of our troops. Also, the period of the raining season is a difficult moment for us. We cannot dominate the environment like what we do during the dry season but efforts are geared towards regaining our areas. All these ambushes that are happening would be stopped.”

Meet The 3 Republican Senators That Joined Democrats To Oppose Plan To Repeal Obamacare

Again, efforts by Donald Trump and Republicans to repeal and replace Obamacare failed.

In a devastating setback, 3 Republican Senators, John McCain, Lisa Murkowski and Susan Collins joined with Democrats to oppose the measure.

Speaking after the vote, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell looked stunned and lamented the vote and the inability of the GOP to fulfill their long-term campaign pledge. "This is clearly a disappointing moment. Our constituents have suffered through an awful lot under Obamacare. We
thought they deserved better. It's why I and many of my colleagues did as we promised and voted to repeal this failed law. We told our constituents we would vote that way. And when the moment came, when the moment came, most of us did. It's time to move on," he said.

President Trump in an early morning tweet reacted to the Senate vote, saying "3 Republicans and 48 Democrats let the American people down. As I said from the beginning, let ObamaCare implode, then deal. Watch!"

Why Some Men Are Scared Of Getting Married

Marriage is one of the most important event in an individual’s life. Marriages are said to be destined from the heavens. The advent of a supposedly golden period in one’s life is expected give birth to feelings of positive anticipation. This holds true though for most women.Women are said to be difficult to understand. But the same seems to be true for the guys. Have we ever pondered enough on why are guys so scared of marriage? Is it that they wish to remain their mamma’s boys? Is it plain immaturity that he doesn’t wish to start handling responsibility?

While we start delving on the reasons why guys are so scared of marriage, we should also keep in mind the patriarchal set-up of most of our societies. This is where these guys have to become men
and start fending for both themselves and their families. With the changes in the dynamics of families due to women becoming earning members of the families, guys have started becoming less scared of marriage. This is because of the wife sharing with him his responsibilities and making him more secure. Here are some reasons why men scared of getting married.[/b]

Reasons behind men scared of getting married are:

1.The wedding and honeymoon: His father is no longer ready to bankroll his wedding. The way weddings in India are, this is enough to give him the nightmares. He may earn enough for a living. But what about that European honeymoon his lady is expecting from him? This might just explain why guys are so afraid of getting married.

2.Bad experiences with partners: He did enter into a relationship earlier and had dreamt of a golden life with his partner. But things did not work out and resulted in a nasty break-up. Now he is plain scared of marriage. Cannot blame him though.

3.Afraid of kids: One of the reasons behind the guys being so scared of marriage lies in the frightening aspect of losing sleep over diapers! Strange but true. The women of today expect him to play an equal role in parenting. This is where he gets those hiccoughs.

4.A nasty mother: Sounds ridiculous right? You have seen how your mother treats your sister-in-law and this has led to your brother’s divorce with his wife of three years. Enough to scare you into deciding not to bring another lady into your home.

These are the reasons behind men scared of getting married

Only Buhari Can Tell When He Will Return - Oyegun

He was part of the team that visited President Buhari in London on Sunday and today, shortly after a meeting at the APC National Secretariat, Oyegun had a brief interview with journalists where he was asked few questions about his trip to London to see the President and below is what he said. Enjoy!

Your Excellency, you led an APC delegation to visit Mr. President. What is his state of health?

Oyegun: I can confirm that Mr. President is convalescing very strongly. Right now, all he is doing is having as much rest as he can to build up his energy, to build up his stamina. But the worst is
certainly over. Mr. President is going to come back and he is going to face the responsibilities for which the people of this country have elected him. I am glad to say he is recovering beautifully. Continue...

On allegations made by the Governor of Ekiti State on Mr. President’s state of health.

Believe me, I hate to comment on anything the Governor of Ekiti State says because when people have taken leave of common decency, our basic cultural upbringing; when people cease to have respect for elders and cease to have respect for the fact that an elder statesman who is also President of this nation is going through a health challenge and seek to make fun of it, and seek to say things that are so totally unbecoming, it is really not worth commenting on. But I am glad that as at yesterday (Wednesday) even Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors went there and thank God nice sober people, they were very excited at the pace of recovery of Mr. President. I hope that finally, even for the most hardened of political adversaries that common sense and common decency will finally prevail.

When are we expecting Mr. President sir?

Only Mr. President can speak to that. But I am glad he is having a lot of rest. And I wish it was possible to say take a longer time getting truly ready but he is beautifully making progress with his recovery. We discussed issues with him, but basically it was a courtesy call. People who are genuinely concerned, who want to see him, who want to chat with him. We had quite a good chat, quite a good meal. As you could see he is still his old jovial self. He had so many questions about events back home, just wanting of course to get our own perspective of things which we did. I thoroughly enjoyed the visit and I came away very happy.

2019: Fear Grips Politicians Over Buhari’s Health

Indications have emerged that the improving health status of President Muhammadu Buhari is unsettling several politicians scheming to contest the presidency in 2019. Buhari, who left the country on May 7 to London, for follow-up medical checks, is said to be recuperating fast from an undisclosed ailment.

A senior presidency source, who prefers not to be quoted, confirmed to our correspondent yesterday that recent development regarding how fast the president is getting better and the fact that he may
soon return, has thrown some very powerful politicians off balance.
The source disclosed that intelligence information before the presidency revealed that many of the big politicians, especially in the North who are jostling to succeed President Buhari should he fail to recontest the 2019 election, “want him dead.”

Some of the prominent names being mentioned on the All Progressives Congress (APC) card as possible presidential hopeful in 2019 from the North include former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Senate President Bukola Saraki, former Kano State governor, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, Governors Nasir el-Rufai (Kaduna), Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto) and Kashim Shettima (Borno).

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced in March this year that the 2019 presidential election will hold on February 16, barely 19 months from now. Buhari, who is constitutionally entitled to two terms of four years each, has spent about 79 days in London attending to his health.

According to the presidency source, the reopened visits by governors to the President in London has come as shock to many of the politicians who believed that he will not survive from the current sickness. “Man proposes, God disposes. Very soon, treacherous people will become sycophants.

“The confirmation that Mr. President is well has scattered some politicians’ dream. The latest information on the President’s health is really a cog in the wheel of their ambition,” the presidency source said. Another aide of the President, who pleaded anonymity, told New Telegraphthat those scheming for 2019 are surprisingly persons close to the corridors of power in the presidency. “Some have already established offices in their states with campaign structures.

I think they will have to go for a plan B,” he said. Acting President Yemi Osinbajo who visited Buhari two weeks ago, confirmed that the President was recuperating very fast and will soon return to the country. The president’s wife, Mrs. Aisha Buhari, who is currently with him in London, had also thanked God for answering the prayers of Nigerians as her husband was getting better to return soon. Four governors, led by the National Chairman of the APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, visited the President on Sunday where they had lunch with him.

They were the governors of Kaduna, Nasarawa, Kogi, Imo and the Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi. On Wednesday, seven other governors, led by the chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF), Abdulaziz Yari, again met with the President in London.

French Mayor Eats RAT After Losing Bet On Barcelona

Barcelona 's miraculous Champions League comeback against Paris Saint-Germain last season forced a French mayor to eat a RAT after a bet backfired.

With PSG hammering Barca 4-0 in the first leg of their last-16 encounter, Charles Dayot of Mont-de-Marsan — a commune in southwestern France — took to Facebook to announce he would gobble down the unappetising dish if the Ligue 1 giants were dumped out.

But Dayot was left with no choice other than to swallow his pride along with a cooked rodent when
Barcelona completed the unlikeliest of victories.

Although the Spanish giants led the second leg 2-0 at half-time, the bullish mayor was far from ratty as PSG appeared likely to score at least once at the Nou Camp.

A 50th-minute Lionel Messi penalty left him biting his fingernails but Edison Cavani netted just after the hour mark to leave the Spanish giants facing an uphill battle once again to turn the tie in their favour.

However, Messi and Co refused to throw in the towel and two late goals from Neymar — one a penalty — were followed by a last-gasp strike from Sergi Roberto.

With Barca winning 6-1 on the night and 6-5 on aggregate, Dayot was left facing the horrifying fact that he would have to munch on vermin.

And although it took him a while to stay true to his promise considering the tie was decided in March, he donned a PSG shirt as a napkin to tuck into is rat dish on Sunday.

He even went as far as to suggest the unusual cuisine actually tasted like rabbit — proving there really is no accounting for taste.

Buhari’s Recovery Is A Miracle, Says Ebonyi Governor

The Governor of Ebonyi State, Mr. Dave Umahi, has described the rate of the recovery of President Muhammadu Buhari as a miracle.

Umahi, who is one of the seven governors that visited the President in London yesterday night, told one of Punch correspondents on the telephone from London, that he and his colleagues were surprised with the level of his (President) recovery.

Apart from Umahi, others governors in the entourage  are  Udom Emmanuel (Akwa Ibom);  Abdulaziz Yari (Zamfara); Abiola Ajimobi (Oyo); Samuel Ortom (Benue); Umar Ganduje (Kano);
and Kashim Shettima (Borno).

Six of the  governors were chosen based on the six geo-political zones in the country while the governor of Zamfara State was picked because of his position as the chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum.

Umahi, who was one of the two governors from the opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party, said that it was difficult for members of the opposition to believe what they were being told by the handlers of the President that he was getting better.

He, however, said that he was happy, just like the other six governors, that the President was making progress and that he had improved very well.

The governor said the President would soon return to the country as soon as his doctors certified him alright.

He said, “We met a cheerful President whose level of recovery is a miracle. We know he will soon return home as soon as his doctors certify him to do so. What he’s treating is not mere malaria that we can say he will return today or tomorrow.

“However, we are happy and we thank God for what we saw. It is contrary to the pictures people are painting on the social media. The President we saw is recuperating well and we are happy for that.

“It is even better that, we as members of the opposition party, are among the entourage. Nigerians should continue to pray for the President. “

Asked whether the President told them the likely date of his return, he said no, adding that there was no need to be too expectant, saying that the Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo (SAN), was doing a good job.

“We don’t need to panic because we have a hardworking acting President who is doing a fantastic job. All we need to do as Nigerians is to continue to pray for the President,” the governor added.

Google To Train 100,000 Nigerian Software Developers

The chief executive officer of Google Incorporated, Sundar Pichai, has said his firm would prepare 10 million Africans for ‘jobs of the future’ in the next five years.
He said this in a company conference held in Lagos, Thursday.
The pledge marked an extension of an initiative Google launched in April 2016 to train young Africans in digital skills. It announced in March it had reached its initial target of training one million
people.

The company said a combination of in-person and online training would be offered in Swahili, Hausa and Zulu languages. It also mentioned that at least 40 percent of people trained are women.
Mr. Pichai said: “Nigerians have to write software for the local economy and we have a program to train over 100,000 software developers in Nigeria.”
The company also pledged a commitment of over $20 million in the next five years for nonprofit organisations in Africa.

Google announced plans to provide more than $3 million in equity-free funding, mentorship and working space access to more than 60 African start-ups over three years.
The tech company also launched a new range of products in Africa starting with Nigeria at the event.
The products launched include Posts with Google, Gboard, Google Street View, Launchpad Accelerator and the YouTube Go.

With the launch of Posts with Google, Nigeria is the third country in the world after the United States and Brazil to have the application. The product enables up-to-date posts from verified people, places or things, to appear directly in search results.

A statement by Google said, “museums, sports teams, sports leagues, and movies in the US, and all of the above plus musicians in Brazil and Nigeria are the only ones with access to the new product, however experimentation is ongoing in other regions of the world.”
The Gboard is a keyboard specially designed to make it easy to type in Nigerian languages like Igbo, Hausa and Yoruba with the proper alphabets readily available.

Google also unveiled an improved search engine capable of saving 90 percent data, which is five times faster with faster web pages from search results.
With the newly launched Google Street View, users can view any location in the world in a video form from their devices.

“Google maps are just as relevant to a user in Lagos as it is in London. You can view the streets of Lagos from the comfort of your couch,” Suhen Ruhela of Google Maps said.
The company indicated that YouTube Go was built on four pillars “it is relatable, connected, cost effective and Social. YouTube Go will give users control over the videos they love,”

According to Johanna Wright, vice president of YouTube, YouTube Go was being tested in Nigeria as of June, and the trial version of the app will be offered globally later this year.

Also speaking, Google Country Director for Nigeria, Juliet Ehimuan Chiazor, said Nigeria ranked number one among African users and the eighth in the world.
Other side attractions at the event was a live performance by rising Nigerian musician, Adekunle Gold, and the presentation of a plaque to Popular Nigerian YouTube personality, Mark Angel Comedy for hitting one million subscribers on his YouTube account.

A 36-year old grandmother, Mrs. Bosede Oyetunde, has been sentenced to one month’s imprisonment by a family court sitting in Oke Eda, Akure, Ondo State, for dumping a day-old baby boy, her grandson, in the bush.

The incident happened in Omotoso town in the Okitipupa Local Government Area of the state.

NHIS Boss’ Suspension: Reps Threaten Arrest Of Health Minister

For failing to appear before them to clear suspicions on the suspension of Executive Secretary of National Insurance Health Scheme, NHIS, the House of Representatives, yesterday, threatened to issue a warrant of arrest against Minister of Health, Professor Isaac Adewole.

The lawmakers also said there would be no consideration of budget of the NHIS henceforth.

Professor Isaac Adewole Chairman of the House Committee on Health Services, Chike Okafor,
disclosed this after a closed door meeting with members of the committee.

The committee is currently investigating the issue and had demanded that the minister appeared before it.

Okafor said the minister had rather declined the call through a letter, saying: “The House resolution was communicated to the Health Minister and if you look through our proceedings, you will see that we were expecting the minister to come tomorrow (today) to give us an update on the crisis rocking the NHIS.

“But incidentally, I got a letter from him about an hour ago, saying he will not be available to appear before this committee. He gave a couple of reasons, which I would still relate to the committee when we dissolve into an executive session.

“Suffice it to say that the reasons are not acceptable to me. I was going to direct that we send a letter back to him as he claimed in his letter that he has engagements that will take him out of Abuja or that he is already out of Abuja.”

How Kidnapping Can End In Nigeria - IGP

Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, yesterday,  attributed increasing rate of kidnapping in the country to weak laws, saying the menace could conveniently be brought to a permanent end, if the National Assembly comes up with stringent laws.

He said mere parading of suspected kidnappers by his agency without either taking them to law courts for prosecution and possibly sentencing them to death had rather boosted the morale of the kidnappers in their nefarious activities.

The police boss spoke in Abuja at a monthly meeting with Commissioners of Police and other senior
officers of the Force.

He said:  “When I went to the National Assembly, I told them that what we need to check kidnapping  punishment. I think these boys see us parade people but they don’t see them taken to court or sentenced to death.

“In some states, where kidnapping leads to death of somebody, the penalty is death but they only see the court sentencing such persons to 10 years or life imprisonment.

“I feel that is why they feel more relaxed and I told the National Assembly that we need to have more stringent punishments for kidnappers.

I think that is the only way to check the menace because they see it as child’s play.

“If you go all over the command across the states, you would discover that some of these youths are getting more involved in kidnapping.

Like I told the National Assembly, I believe if we can get laws to check it, we are going to see a lot of changes.

“In Niger Republic, a Boko Haram suspect was arrested and within one week, judgment was passed. That sends a very strong message that whoever that is planning to go into it should desist but here, we have suspects appearing in court and the matter continually adjourned.”

Justin Bieber Hits Photographer With Pick-Up Truck But It Was Only A MISTAKE

Pop star Justin Bieber has accidentally hit a photographer with his pickup truck after leaving a service with the Hillsong Church group in Los Angeles, police say.

The 23-year-old was seen trying to help the man to his feet after he fell to the ground beside the vehicle outside the Saban Theatre on Wednesday night.

Pictures show the 57-year-old photographer lying on the ground and clutching his leg while the singer talked with police and bystanders. The incident occurred after the singer was leaving the
church service.

According to abc7, Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian were also at the service but were not involved in the collision. Beverly Hills police Lt Scott Dowling told the New York Daily News that the collision had taken place at 'extremely slow speed' just before 9.30pm local time.

Justin was driving his black Dodge Ram out of the street parking space and turning right when the collision occurred.

He hit the photographer in the knee and he fell to the ground.

Justin immediately stopped his truck and climbed out of the cab, walking around the front to find the snapper lying on the ground beside it.

He asked the photographer if he was OK or if he was injured.

The man was clutching his leg and crying out in pain, although the extent of his injuries were not immediately apparent.

His camera equipment and baseball cap lay scattered on the ground beside him, while one shoe had partially come off.

The photographer later told Justin that he was fine and joked with the singer that something was bound to happen at some point.

Whatever his injuries, they didn't appear to be life-threatening as his fellow photographers simply stood around snapping more pictures.

As Justin spoke to the man, he  didn't appear to look too concerned as his offer for a hand up went ignored.

Beverly Hills Police arrived shortly afterward, as Justin was seen explaining what had happened to two officers.

One ambulance, a fire truck and ten police cars arrived on scene, and Justin spoke to authorities before going inside the church.

The photographer, meanwhile, was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Son Beats 62-Year-Old Mother To Death

Middle aged man, identified as Ekene Ezeogo, has allegedly beaten his mother to death following a squabble that erupted in their residence located at No 24 Agbaja Road in Abakaliki Ebonyi State capital.

Findings revealed that the incident occurred yesterday when the woman identified as Prophetess Mary intervened in a fight that ensued between the suspect Ekene and his younger sister.

It was gathered that the case had been reported to the Central Police Station Abakaliki, but the
suspect was yet to be arrested at the time of filling this report.

During a visit to the residence of the victim at 24 Agbaja Road Abakaliki by The Punch, it was obvious that all was not well as sympathizers sighted within the compound were in mourning mood.

Confirming the incident, the suspect’s step brother, Onyema Ezeogo, disclosed that Ekene’s mother died after her son pushed her to the ground and she hit her stomach on the ground.

“Ekene beat his mother and brush her down, the mother hit her tommy on the ground, Ekene carried her to St Agatha hospital for treatment, unfortunately she could not make it , the Doctor certified her dead,”he narrated.

Corroborating the story, a tenant in the victim compound who gave his name as Chinedu Sunday (m) told news men that he was working with the victim as a Missionary and expressed shock over the tragic killing of the woman, stating that other members of the family had been taken to another residential home for safety.

In his reaction, the Medical Director of St Agatha hospital Abakaliki Dr Lawrence Ezeogo who incidentally is the elder brother of the suspect confirmed the death of the victim, Mrs Mary (his mother).

He said that the woman was brought to the hospital unconscious as a result of his son (Ekene) attack, disclosing that she was later diagnosed of Uterian prolapse.

“We referred her to another hospital because of the Uterian Prolapse that was diagnosed of her, as far as I am concerned the suspect has committed some crime, if we don’t allow Police to come into this matter and investigate it properly, it means that some other person will do the same in that family, it is a very large family of 37 children with 5 wives,” Dr Lawrence revealed.
