A girls hostel at the University of Uyo caught fire this afternoon. It started from a room and spread to two other rooms. Thankfully the fire was contained by man-o-war and fire service before it spread to more rooms. And more thankful is that no life was lost. The cause of the sudden fire is yet to be known. Doctor Mistakes Tattoo Ink For Cancer And Removes Woman's Uterus, Cervix, Fallopian Tubes And Pelvic Lymph Nodes
When a California woman with cervical cancer underwent a body image scan, doctors noticed bright areas in her lymph nodes, suggesting her cancer had spread. But it was only after surgery to treat the cancer that they realized the real reason for those bright spots: her tattoos.
The 32-year-old woman with four children had recently been diagnosed with cervical cancer. In November 2012, her doctors requested the imaging scan to check to see if the cancer had spread (metastasized) to other parts of her body.
The 32-year-old woman with four children had recently been diagnosed with cervical cancer. In November 2012, her doctors requested the imaging scan to check to see if the cancer had spread (metastasized) to other parts of her body.
"Findings of possible metastatic disease on PET scans can certainly change management," Eskander said. "We want to make sure that people understand that these false positives could arise in patients that have tattoos," he said.
The researchers did find that the woman had a small number of cancer cells in one of her pelvic lymph nodes, a condition that doctors call a "micro metastasis." But this micro metastasis was too small to have shown up on the PET scan, so it was only by chance that the doctors found it, Eskander said.
The type of scan the doctors wanted was a PET/CT fusion scan, which combines technology from both PET and CT scans, and requires that patients receive an injection of a radioactive tracer that makes tumors appear as bright spots on the scan.

The type of scan the doctors wanted was a PET/CT fusion scan, which combines technology from both PET and CT scans, and requires that patients receive an injection of a radioactive tracer that makes tumors appear as bright spots on the scan.
The scan showed not only the woman's cervical tumor, but also bright spots on the lymph nodes in her pelvis, which looked suspiciously like cancer metastases, the researchers wrote in their report of her case, published in the journal Obstetrics and Gynecology.
To treat her cervical cancer, the woman had surgery to remove her uterus, cervix, fallopian tubes and pelvic lymph nodes.
But when doctors later examined cells from the woman's lymph nodes under a microscope, they saw that the cells contained deposits of tattoo ink - not cancer. The woman had more than 14 tattoos on her legs.
"Those lymph nodes that were lighting up brightly on the PET scan were doing so because of the tattoo pigment that was in the lymph nodes," said study co-author Dr. Ramez Eskander, assistant clinical professor of gynecologic oncology at the University of California, Irvine Medical Center, who treated the woman.

There have previously been reports of tattoo ink spreading to people's lymph nodes and showing up on PET scans in patients with other cancer including breast cancer and melanoma. But this appears to be the first case reported in a patient with cervical cancer, Eskander said.
In this woman's case, seeing the brightly lit lymph nodes did not change the doctors' surgical plan, Eskander said. But it's important that doctors are aware that extensive tattoos could look like cancer on PET scans, because this could change the way they treat a patient. For example, if a doctor is convinced that a patient has metastatic cancer, he or she may suggest that the patient undergo chemotherapy and radiation right away, rather than surgery, Eskander said.
The woman didn't have any complications after her surgery, and she was allowed to leave the hospital after three days. She is now doing very well and doesn't have any evidence of cancer recurrence, Eskander said.

Cosmopolitan Features 3 Chibok Girls Who Fled Boko Haram Captivity
Mercy, Sarah, and Deborah are some of the Chibok Girls who escaped from Boko Haram captivity last year. They now live in a small town in Oregun, USA. The three girls, another one named Grace who didn't want to be photographed for the feature are quietly finishing their education at the Canyonville Christian Academy, a boarding school with students from more than a dozen countries.
The girls said arriving in the US seemed like they had arrived in Mars as they had grown up in deeply poor, rural villages with no Internet access and in some cases a sole landline phone for the entire village. In Oregon, everything was new: winter weather, puffy coats, remote controls, trampolines, yogurt-covered pretzels, cheerleaders, ice skating, karaoke. They spoke only a little English.
The first girl to arrive, Mercy, came this past November. School president Doug Wead recalls Mercy's first-ever encounter with an escalator. As she stepped onto the moving staircase at the airport, she panicked and dropped her bag. That night, at the hotel, she took a bath and stayed there for hours. "Later, my wife checked in on her, and she was asleep on the bed, lying on top of the fluffy comforter," says Wead. "Her coat was on, fully zipped."

The girls came to Canyonville with the help of a nonprofit group in Virginia, the Jubilee Campaign, and activists from Nigeria. The girls, all of whom are Christian, live in constant uncertainty, unsure whether relatives are alive or dead, whether their homes have been burned. They keep in touch with loved ones by phone when possible amid the chaos.

The Chibok girls, all 18 years old, have been meeting with the counselor since their arrival. Grace came in December with classmates Sarah and Deborah, a few weeks after Mercy. Cosmopolitan is withholding their last names for safety. Grace recently lost her brother, two uncles, and a cousin, all killed by Boko Haram.

This Is Hilarious! Only One Candidate Shows Up For Tanzania's Presidential Election Debate
The CEO roundtable (CEOrt) (an elite political forum in Tanzania) was forced to adjourn the first presidential aspirants' debate it had organised for the Presidential hopefuls last night in the city after the aspirants failed to show up for the earlier confirmed dialogue.
The invitees to the platform debate were former Prime Minister Fredrick Sumaye, Minister for Tourism and Natural Resources Lazaro Nyalandu, Deputy Minister for Science, Communication and Technology January Makamba and Deputy Minister for Finance Mwigulu Nchemba.
Among the five invited, only the African Union Permanent Ambassador in the United States, Amina Salum Ali, attended. All aspirants have already picked up nomination forms.
Announcing the postponement of the debate, CEO rt Chairman Ali Mufuruki did not find a word with which to convince the audiences, who already had secured their seats waiting anxiously for the aspirants to come and start the debate on straight.
In his introductory speech he expressed his disappointment on the decisions made by the aspirants who at that moment had sent him messages to inform that they couldn't attend the debate with no reasons whatsoever.
