Unbelievable! See the Nigerian State Where 80% of Courts Are in Rented Apartments

A ridiculous revelation has been made about the judicial system of a Nigerian state and how its courts sit to decide judicial matters.

It has been revealed that 80 percent of the courts in Nassarawa State are in rented apartments which greatly inhibits the prompt dispensation of justice.

The Chief Registrar of the state High Court, Barr. Sunday Bawa, made the  observation on Monday while defending the 2016 budget proposals at the state House of Assembly complex in Lafia, the state capital.

He stated that courts are grossly inadequate, especially Magistrate courts which have staggering volumes of cases to work on, adding that in a some cases cultural centres have been turned to courts.

Barr. Bawa noted that in order to meet its obligation to in 2015 the N30 million approved for dress allowance was used to augment Salaries and promotions to avoid strike actions, noting that only N11 million used for the purpose it was approved.

He also observed that the N2 million approved for  local travel was grossly inadequate as it was not sufficient to service a single trip. He said the state High Court has 11 Judges but could only afford to send one or two to judges conferences o the total exclusion of area court judges and adminnistrative staff.

The registrar however expressed delight with N300 million addition on the on the 2015 recurrent budget of the High court to N1.8 billion saying it would be utilized in payment of promotions and annual increments.

He said it would also enhance the salarues and wages of judiciary staff  even as it was projected that that 187 staff would be employed to

complement its current 630 staff strength across all cadres.

In his submission, the chairman of the House committee on Judiciary, Barr. Abubakar Ogbere Kana (APC-Kokona West) expressed concern over the state of  infrastructure in the Judiciary noting that it needs a total overhaul in  the overall interest of the dispensation of justice.
