Reps direct IG of Police to thoroughly investigate murder of Abuja evangelist

The House of Representatives has directed the acting Inspector-General of Police, IGP Ibrahim Idris, to thoroughly investigate the gruesome murder of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, preacher, Deaconess Eunice Olawale, who was killed in the early hours of last Saturday while evangelising in Kubwa, Abuja.

The House reached this resolution during yesterday’s plenary following a motion of urgent national importance sponsored by Babatunde Kolawole, APC Ondo, entitled: Gruesome murder of Mrs. Eunice Olawale in Kubwa, Abuja and need to protect other citizens in the FCT.

While urging the IGP to ensure that all perpetrators of the crime were brought to book, the lawmakers called for deployment of more police in the area, where the crime was committed, to prevent such occurrences in the future.

The House further urged the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, administration to demolish all shanties across the nation’s capital, where miscreants were said to be hiding and from where they attack citizens.

The sponsor of the motion told his colleagues that the 42-year-old woman and wife of RCCG Pastor, Olawale Elisha, was murdered in the early hours of Saturday, July 9, while preaching the gospel a few metres away from her house in Kubwa by unidentified miscreants.

According to him, “Late Mrs. Eunice Olawale is from Ilawe, Ekiti State, while her husband, Pastor Olawale, is from Ikare-Akoko in Ondo State. She was allegedly murdered by miscreants who were said to be annoyed by her early morning preaching in the area.

“This incident has caused ethnic tension in the Federal Capital Territory because some are claiming she was killed by extremists, while others say they are miscreants, and there is therefore the need for the House to be proactive to prevent the breakdown of law and order and further loss of lives.”

The motion was overwhelmingly supported through voice vote called by the Speaker, Yakubu Dogara, who presided over the plenary and one minute silence, was observed in honour of the deceased, who was hacked to death at a junction close to the Kubwa New Market, Bazango.
