That awkward moment when a bride-to-be steals baby to pay for her bride price...

That awkward moment when a bride-to-be steals baby to pay for her bride price

Yesterday, we brought you the story of Onyebuchi Jennifer, a desperate woman who was arrested on Tuesday in Anambra state for stealing a baby in Lagos state.

Now there's an update!

The 26-year-old, in a confessional statement, said she did it to deceive her lover into marrying her as the condition was that she must be with child before any form of union will happen between both of them.

The nine-month-old baby belongs to an acquaintance she had met briefly in Ajegunle.

Jennifer carried out the act on Saturday, September 26 and fled to her lover’s abode where she has been living since October 2014.

She narrated her story: “My mother died when I was in primary five. My father had died a few years earlier. My parents had two of us; but a few years ago, my elder sister died during childbirth. So, I was left alone in Anambra State without any relation.

“I gave birth to a child in 2010, but he died after six months. Last year, I met a man who promised to marry me after I had had a child for him.

“We started living together in October 2014. I was pregnant, but after three months, I had a miscarriage. I was troubled, and started running after traditional doctors and hospitals, but to no avail. I decided to come to Lagos to work and find a way to get a baby. I came to Lagos in June 2015.
“So, I came to the Ajegunle area and I got a job as a fuel attendant. While I was working, I met the baby’s mother and we became friends.

“On that Saturday, I went to her shop, which was near the filling station. I said I was going to the Boundary area to buy an item and I would carry her baby with me. She did not object. So, I took the baby from her, and boarded a bus to Anambra State to meet my lover.”

“I did this so that he could pay my bride price and marry me. I did not tell the baby’s mother that I was taking him to Anambra. We left on Saturday and got to my place on Sunday. I had the intention to bring the baby back after my bride price had been paid. I lied to my husband that I had been pregnant before I left and gave birth to the baby while in Lagos.

“He believed me, and I took good care of the baby for four days before the police showed up in our apartment.

“My lover immediately dissociated himself from me. He had not paid the bride price before the police arrested me.”

The boy’s father, Adeniyi Adetola, was ecstatic to reunite with his son again.

He said, “We are taking the boy to the hospital for further treatment today (Tuesday). The mother and I are happy to have our baby boy back. The baby is my second child, and I appreciate the police for doing a good job on this case. I also appreciate God.”

KFB Foodie Talk: How to prepare Cat fish pepper soup (Point and kill recipe)

For our newbies, the KFB foodie talk column - handled by Dobby of  - is basically for ladies and 'guys' that are interested in learning how to cook better ;).

The name point and kill is a popular name for this dish and was coined from the fact that when you go to local restaurants or bars to order for this delicacy, you'd be taken to a fish pond to select the fish you want. To select, you point at the fish and it would be brought out of the water and killed.

Next, all you have to do is relax for about 20-30 minutes for the cat fish pepper soup to be prepared. Cat fish pepper soup is a tasty and healthy delicacy prepared with local herbs and enjoyed by many. Here's how it's made...

How to make cat fish pepper soup

• Prep time: 15 mins
• Cook time: 15 mins
• Total time: 30 mins
• Misc: Serve hot
Ingredients:::
• 1 medium sized Cat Fish
• 3 Calabash Nutmeg seeds (Ehu/Ariwo)
• 4 Habanero Pepper or chili pepper (to taste)- ground

• 2 tbsp. Crayfish - ground
• A handful scent leaves
• 4 Utazi leaves
• 1 medium sized onion
• 2 seasoning cubes
• Salt to taste

Directions:::

Step 1: To prepare the fish, cut the cat fish into 1-inch thick slices. Boil some hot water and pour on the pieces of fish, stir and remove immediately. This toughens the skin of the fish so that it does not fall apart during cooking.

Step 2: Now it is time to prepare the 'secret' ingredient. There are two methods of doing this;
Method 1: Using an old frying pan, roast the Ehu seeds (stirring constantly) till you can smell it. Another way to know that it is OK is to take one of the seeds and try to remove the outer membrane. If the membrane comes off easily, then the Ehu is done. Peel off the skin and grind the ehu in a dry mill.

Method 2: Roast the iwo/ erhe over direct flame. Remove the shell and pound into a smooth powder. Calabash nutmeg is also known as; Gudan Miya, Ikpoosa, Ehuru, Ehu, Posa, Iwo, Erhe.

Step 3: Cut the onions into tiny pieces - Set aside. Wash and pick the scent leaves and utazi leaves, slice into smaller pieces - Set aside.

Step 4: Place the pieces of fish in a pot, add the chopped onion and pour water just enough to cover the fish, add the crushed seasoning and bring to the boil. Once it starts to boil add the ground pepper, ehu, crayfish, salt to taste and continue cooking for about 5 mins. Once the catfish is done, add the chopped leaves. Leave to simmer for about 3 minutes and it's ready!
Serve the cat fish pepper soup hot!

Open Heavens 7 October 2015: Wednesday daily devotion by Pastor E. A. Adeboye – Prayer and Joy

Open Heavens 7 October 2015: Wednesday daily devotion by Pastor E. A. Adeboye

Memorise: Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be fall. - John 16:24

Read: John 16:23-24 (KJV)

23 And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.

24 Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.

Bible in one Year: Numbers 5:11-7:11, 2 Corinthians 1:12-2:11

MESSAGE:

It’s amazing to know that prayer causes one’s voice to be heard in Heaven. Of the over six billion people on earth, do you know that God can single out your voice for His personal attention? Indeed, when you pray, God hears your voice, and through this, He gives solutions to long-standing problems in your life. Every stubborn problem in your life will receive a divine touch today. As you call upon the Lord, he will hear your cry in Jesus’ Name.

From Zacharias’ experience, we learn that prayer causes you to hear good news (Luke 1:5-17). When the angle of God met Zacharias in the temple while the congregation prayed, he broke the good news he had been expecting to hear for such a long time. This implies that within every unpleasant situation, there is some good news tucked inside that only prayer can unearth. This also connotes that there is a link between prayer and joy. When you pray, you will hear some good news about your situation or circumstance which will bring you joy. No wonder Jesus, in our Bible reading today, says we should ask until our joy is full. Have you been receiving negative news lately? You need to engage your prayer gear, and good news will locate you. Very soon, you shall hear the good news that will transform your life.

Moreover, prayer equally provides details about future events. No wonder the Bible in Jeremiah 33:3 says:

“Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.”

It was in the place of prayer that the birth of John was foretold. It was also in the midst of prayer that God’s plan and purpose for John was disclosed. If you want God to reveal your tomorrow to you, pray. If you do not want to be kept in the dark concerning fundamental issues of your life, pray. Some believers go through very critical periods of their life without effective prayers. No wonder they mishandle opportunities that come their way. As you pray today, ask God to give you insight into your future. This season, your prayer will work for you. Call on the Lord now while He may be found. It is well with you.

Key Point: God may be listening to multitudes of people, but He still hears your voice.
