Fuel price hike: Group blasts NLC over failed strike

A group known as the Coalition of Civil Society Against Corrupt Persons in Nigeria, CCSACPN, on Friday criticised the Comrade Ayuba Wabba-led faction of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, over the failure to make workers comply with the planned strike against Federal Government’s decision to hike fuel price.

The coalition’s President, Linus Ejilogo, in a statement said NLC’s failure to force workers to down tools is an indication that they are not in tune with the thinking and yearnings of Nigerians.

Ejilogo said the days when labour leaders ride on popular demands to blackmail and extort the government for personal interests are over.

He accused the union of working with elements of the past administration to unsettle the current administration by sabotaging its efforts at remedying the mess it inherited.

“Labour’s inability to accept that Nigerians refuse to join the bandwagon by a cross section of self-serving labour and CSO leaders to further compound the current economic hardship is unfortunate.

If they can open their eyes to recognize the truth they will realize that their failed protest have confirmed that no group of persons could drag us back to the Egypt where past administrations in this country have held us,” Ejolgo said.
