The Catholic Bishop of Ondo Diocese, Most Rev. Ayodeji Arogundade, has predicted that all the countries adopting gay marriage would soon crumble, saying their people have lost their values.
Arogundade also attributed the increase in homosexuality in western countries to the lack of adequate parental care for the children there.
The cleric stated this while speaking with journalists at the Bicentenary Service in memory of Don Bosco, held at Mary Help of Christians Shrine, Akure, the Ondo State Capital.
He said, “Whatever the western world becomes today is just for a while, no nation will take such step they are taking and not crumble. I commend African governments for rejecting this.
“We are a people of values. Once you lose your values, you are no longer human beings. We value our culture, value respect for elders and we also have respect for our bodies.
“Once you lose your value, you lose your identity. Unfortunately, some western countries have lost their identities because what is really happening in the west today is a crisis of identity.
“When a man longer recognises that he is a man, and thinks he is a woman, that is identity crisis. When a country gives certificate to a man and a man that are getting married, that country has lost its sense of identity. We must continue to emphasise that the problem of the western world is as a result of a loss of identity.”
The Bishop further stated that findings have revealed that the youths in western countries have been the ones mounting pressure on their governments to legalise gay marriage.
He described the situation as a sign that parents no longer have control over their children.
He said, “The youths are the future of tomorrow and by the time they have gone astray, what will happen to the future?”
Meanwhile, the President, Ogun Baptist Conference, Dr. Adesegun Jayesimi, on Friday threw his weight behind President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-corruption campaign, saying that those found culpable should be punished.
The cleric said this in Abeokuta while briefing journalists on the 38th edition of conference holding in Sagamu, starting from this morning (Saturday).
Jayesimi who described the war against corruption as a worthy crusade, however, warned that it should not be used to witch-hunt political opponents.
He said, “Ogun Baptist conference also joins the crusade against all forms of corruption and malpractices that seem to be the order of the day in this nation.
“This is a worthy crusade that all Nigerians need to put resources together to fight to a logical conclusion.”
