Senate President Bukola Saraki yesterday said incriminating evidence against the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir David Lawal on contract scandal at the Presidential Initiative on North East (PINE) would be forwarded to President Muhammadu Buhari.
The Senate ad-hoc committee on mounting humanitarian crisis in the North-east chaired by Senator Shehu Sani (APC, Kaduna) had on Wednesday indicted the SGF in the contract scandal at the PINE.
Saraki’s remark followed a point of order raised by Senator Dino Melaye (APC, Kogi) on the reaction of the SGF to the call for his resignation and prosecution by the Senate.
Melaye who displayed a form from the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) where the name of the SGF was stated as director of a company that benefited from PINE contract, accused the SGF of disrespecting the Senate.
Saraki said the matter should not be personalized saying “Yesterday (Wednesday), the President was here and sought for the collaboration of the National Assembly. How can his own SGF be talking rubbish. An adhoc committee was constituted and it was based on the committee that we arrive at that. Nothing was doctored or created by anybody.”
He said they would communicate the findings of the committee to President Buhari.
