Ambassadors of Excellence Award
Anambra State Government has awarded cream de la cream in the state who had contributed in various ways in the development and growth of the state.
The presentation of awards was among part of the activities mapped out to mark the 25 years of the state's creation.
The awards are categorized into four namely Pillars of Our Heritage, Light Bearers, Lifetime Achievement, Philanthropists Extraordinaire and Business Titans.
Others were Ambassadors of Excellence, Outstanding Public Service, Lifetime and Pillars of Inter Denomination Harmony, Icons of Education, Icons of Tradition and Service to Humanity, Evergreen Posthumous Award.
Presenting the award at the Governor's Lodge attracted Amawbia, the Governor of Anambra state, Chief Willie Obiano expressed satisfaction that Anambra people are industrious and had contributed immensely to be development of the state, Nigeria and the World at large.
Governor Obiano said the award would cut across notable personalities in the state, irrespective of religion, party or class of representation.
"Today at the dawn of the 25 anniversary of our state, I have the honor of reminding you that we are the children of Olaudah Equinoh, the first Africa to buy back his freedom from his slave masters and boldly speak up for the abolition of the slave trade.
We are the children of the Great Zik of Africa whose gift of the mind and the tongue sounded the death bell on colonialism in Africa.
We are the offspring of Sir Louis Odumegwu Ojukwu and his son, the great Ikemba Chukwuemeka whose courage and valour ensured the survival of our people from the threat of extinction.
We come from the lions of Micheal Iwene Tansi, Cardinal Francis Arinze, Chinua Achebe and Kenneth Dike among others; too many to mention here.
Our future looks bright with the amazing gifts of youth like Chimamanda Adichie and the boys and girls that astonished the world at the World School Debating Championship in Singapore."
The Governor therefore urged the awardees to continue work towards the development of the state.
Some of the people awarded as Pillars of our Heritage were late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, represented by his wife Mrs Bianca Ojukwu, late Chinua Achebe, Blessed Iwene Tanzi, Francis Cardinal Arinze among others.
For Light Bearer award were The first Vice President of Nigeria, Dr Alex Ekwueme, Dr Emeka Ayoku, the first Senate President of Nigeria, Dr Nwafor Orizu, the former Senate President of Nigeria, Dr Chuba Okadigbo among others.
For lifetime achievement award, were the former military heads of States, administrators and governors in Anambra state, including General Ibrahim Babanjida and many more.
The event attracted many dignitaries within and outside the state.
