His declaration is coming in spite of the fact that he has received award twice from Lagos State Government for being a consistent tax payer, Adeyemi said this while fielding questions from journalists at the just concluded ‘2016 Excellence in Leadership Conference’ held at the church premises in Oregun, Lagos and attended by notable international speakers who steered the spirits of Nigerian youth in realising and maximising their potential.
According to him, it is practically unreasonable to tax churches when tactically all the money realised by churches are expended on charity especially the poor and needy in the society.
“In Daystar for, instance we pay school fees of children whose parents cannot afford it, because it is an aberration to continue to increase the number of outof- school children in Nigeria when the country has almost the highest in the world,” he said.
He also explained that the church has a food bank which ensures that no member goes to bed hungry adding that the current recession has increased the number of items of foods distributed on weekly basis.
The cleric said the conference is designed for youths to be able to influence others instead of being influenced, adding that the only way to be a successful influencer is by connecting to the ultimate influencer which is the Holy Spirit. “The best way to influence someone is to change his behavior.
The system does not change except the people that run the system are ready to change; a nation cannot change unless the citizenry change and people need to be inspired before they can be inspirational. God’s economy does not run on the frequency of struggle but on grace and opportunities cannot be maximised on the basis of human capabilities,” he said.
On his view about the present administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, Reverend Adeyemi described the government as a transition government which is an improvement on the previous one.
The cleric therefore warned Nigerians that the elite class will never put the masses first unless they are compelled to do so, adding that the critical thing was for the individual to create the change he desires. On the issue of corruption, the cleric said the system and environment give room for corruption, adding that if people’s basic needs are met, corruption will reduce and the country will still change for better.
A public speaker, socioeconomic and political commentator and social media expert, Japhet Omojua described some members of President Buhari’s kitchen cabinet as complete misfit, saying it was high time the President looked inward and sacked the underperforming ministers in his cabinet.
“President Buhari has a four-year mandate to deliver to Nigerians on his promises; his administration should stop putting blames on the previous one, all Nigerians knew that the previous administration was a pure disaster because they had opportunity of long cycle of oil boom but mismanaged the fund, but that does not mean that this present administration should continue to dwell on the woes of the former,” he said.
Omojua said the way forward for the present administration is to look at the fundamentals of running a government which include rule of law, property rights, education, infrastructure, transportation and communication.
