Former President Olusegun Obasanjo was all smiles at the 10th anniversary of Sultan of Sokoto while riding a horse.
President Muhammadu Buhari, former President Olusegun Obasanjo and some top leaders attended the mini Durbar to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Sultan of Sokoto.
The crème d la crème also witnessed and participated in the mini Dubar, including fiery Catholic Bishop Hassan Kukah. Obasanjo, too participated.
Others who witnessed the ceremony on Saturday included Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha. He also mounted a horse.
Alhaji Abubakar, who is the 20th Sultan of Sokoto, doubles as the President General, Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA).
The four-day event started on Wednesday with the welcome reception by the Sultan at his palace.
Parts of Thursday’s activities aside the symposium included the unveiling of Nana Asmar College of Medical Sciences and cultural night at Mai Geor Open Theatre.
Special prayer session to mark the 10th Anniversary of the Sultan of Sokoto, Abubakar Sa’ad III on the throne as the spiritual leader of the Islamic Council was held.
The prayer session was held at the Sultan Muhammadu Bello Jumat Mosque opposite the Sultan’s palace in Sokoto State.
It was led by Chief Imam of the Mosque, Muhammed Aqwara, who ‘prayed for peaceful co-existence of the nation and the Sultan to live a long life and continue with his good works for the welfare of the people especially the poor.’’
Imam Aqwara called on citizens to fear God in everything they do and be law abiding.
Catholic Bishop Hassan Kukah joined the natives at the Dubar
He urged Muslims to leave in harmony with other religion and obey rules and regulations as Islam is a religion of peace, and also prayed for the Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari, Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal and his deputy, among other leaders.
The Imam, Sultan and other dignitaries went to Hubbarem of Shehu Usman Danfodio where all late Sultan of Sokoto were buried for special prayers.
