Breaking: FC Ifeanyi Ubah wins 2016 Federation Cup

FC Ifeanyi Ubah are through to Round 16 of the 2016 Federations Cup after they defeated Lobi Stars by a goal to nil on Wednesday.

The solitary strike came in the 53rd minute from substitute Bello Kofamata who read the run of Maduabuchi Okereke and received an incisive pass to finish off in style for the only goal of the match as Lobi shotstopper Okiemute Odah was left helpless and hapless.

The goal and the win was just the right tonic that the Anambra Warriors needed coming off two back to back defeats against Niger Tornadoes and Nasarawa United in NPFL match day 19 and 20 respectively.

Reactions trailed the victory as the players, management and the fans alike went into a frenzy mood immediately after the game played at the UJ Esuene Stadium.

Speaking to our correspondent after the win, Skipper of the Team Elu Wilson expressed huge delight for the win saying it was a big relief for the entire team.

”I feel elated and so happy that we got today’s win as we have recently lost some games we played well. We the players kicked ourselves after the defeat to Nasarawa United and gave ourselves the task of winning the next game by all means which we did today.

Also having a clean sheet will also boost our confidence for the next league game and we have to give it our all to get all the 3 points at stake,” Said Elu the stand in skipper.

”It was a hard earned victory and am very much delighted. Victory makes the difference and that’s the climax of any football activity. This is the challenge cup and its a competition that pulls all forms of surprises. The players that featured today are our regulars and by the time we inject our new signings the difference will be seen,” Ubah opined.

On his part, Vice Chairman Anambra Football Association, Barr. J.B.C Obikwelu said the the performance of the players  was a class act.

”Am highly elated with the team’s performance which was better than what they did in the last round at Owerri, we played to win and we eventually won the game. With what i saw today am not afraid of any team and am quite sure this team will go continental come the end of the season,” Obikwelu stated.

Reacting also to the win was Mr Kezito Nnetu, Chairman FCIU Supporters club Worldwide, who said he had the premonition that the team was destined for a win today and also expressed hopes of a continental engagement for the club.

His sentiments were also re-echoed by George Iloka, Chairman Anambra State FCIU Supporter’s club.
