Nursing officer, Beatrice Omutiti was slapped four times by a senseless politician in Kenya

A power-drunk politician who thought he was above the law has landed in trouble after repeatedly slapping a nurse for a most trivial reason.

A senseless Kenyan politician who was power-drunk has done the unthinkable in public by repeatedly slapping a nurse three times at the hospital.

According to The Kenyans, Boniface Wright Okenye, who is the vocal MCA for Basi Bogetaori Ward in Bobasi, adds on to the list of politicians who have landed themselves in trouble after he was accused of slapping a nurse on duty. The nurse apparently failed to address him as ‘mheshimiwa’ (honourable).

For failing to call him 'honourable', Mr Okenye slapped the nursing officer, Beatrice Omutiti four times at Oresi Health Centre claiming he was not served in a way matching his position in society.

“Okenye abused me and slapped me for not treating him the way he would have loved, like an MCA,” claimed nurse Omutiti.

Narrating how the incident happened, Omutiti said the the politician came to the hospital, knocked at the door thrice, but since she was attending to another patient in the maternity, she delayed to open the door to let him in.

She revealed that on opening the door, the furious MCA assaulted her with slaps.

“He (the MCA) had a patient who was in labour. He called me names; a prostitute, dog, lazy worker and referred to me by my tribe, the Luo. He threatened to call the Minister for Health which he did. He then gave me the phone. I explained everything to the minister,” the nurse narrated.

After the call, Omutiti said that the MCA slapped her the fourth time sending her to the floor and reminded her he was an honourable person.

The Nurses Association chairperson, Fredrick Oigo, did not take the issue lying down and threatened to mobilise other nurses to strike over the matter if justice was not served.

Kisii Central OCPD Francis Nguli assured that Mr Okenye would face the full force of the law.

Incidentally, Okenye is facing assault charges after he threatened to shoot his wife over a domestic squabble arising from accusations of infidelity. He was arraigned in court and is currently out on a Sh100,000 bond.
