President Muhammadu Buhari has been received by Angela Merkel, the chancellor of Germany.

Buhari who arrived in Germany on Thursday, October 13, for a three-day visit met with Merkel at the Chancellery in Berlin on Friday, October 14.

Germany had a host of military men in wait to accord the president a befitting welcome.

According to Femi Adeshina who is the spokesperson to the president, Buhari will confer with Merkel on issues of shared interests between Nigeria and Germany, “including further cooperation on security, the humanitarian situation of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and rehabilitation of the North-East, as well as trade and economic relations between both countries.”

“President Buhari is committed to deepening relations with Germany and building on the very cordial relations both countries enjoy in several areas of bilateral cooperation including the fight against terrorism, economic relations, rebuilding of the North east, support for IDPs, vocational training, energy partnership and cultural relations.”

Delegates from Nigeria and Germany meet

Highlights of some of the reasons for the the meeting between the two leaders which is President Buhari’s second visit to Germany since he first did in 2015.

The meeting is expected to foster unity between the two countries, address the issue of security and boost foreign investment.
