The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, has reacted to the arrest and subsequent release from prison custody of the trader, Joe Fortemose Chinakwe, who named his dog after the president.
Chinakwe, who was charged to the Ota Magistrate Court 2, Ogun State by the police with conduct likely to cause breach of public peace, in a case with suit number MOT/617c/2016, on Thursday, fulfilled his N50, 000 bail condition.
The arrest had generated reactions from Nigerians and other social media users, with some lambasting the president of dwelling on less important things when there were other pressing and critical issues in the country to be attended to.
Shehu, reacting to the development in a series of tweets on his Twitter handle, @GarShehu, explained that president Buhari isn’t concerned or behind the arrest of the trader.
His tweets: “I am thinking of saying, using my own handle that people linking the President to this dog incident are just displaying their ignorance of the type of person he is.
“He enjoys cartoons and likes sharing them. The ones he enjoys the most are those that caricature him. It is cheap and sensational to say he can order a police action against a caricature. When he picks a paper, the first page he reaches for is the cartoon page. He laughs and laughs.
“The President must be having a good laugh over this whole thing.
“People should listen to the real story behind this dog incident and to not waste precious time seeking the hand of the President in a laughable incident,” he tweeted.
