The Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has been attacked with stones and rotten fruits by residents as he emerged from a mosque in Lokoja.
According to a report by Premium Times, some aggrieved residents Kogi State on Friday, reportedly stoned Governor Yahaya Bello, as he emerged from Lokoja Central Mosque in the old market area of the state capital where he observed the Jumat prayer.
Confirming the development, a source revealed that the disgruntled persons also carried few placards while chanting anti-government slogans and pelted the governor with rotten fruits and vegetables as the police dispersed the crowd with teargas soon afterwards.
“The situation in this state is even worse than what the residents are doing. The situation is pathetic,” the source said.
A government official disclosed that it was the second time in two weeks the governor would be so attacked as complaints mount about the depreciating living conditions in the state.
“He recently attended an event in Ankpa, and residents there defied heavy security to stone him. We don’tunderstand what’s going on,” the official said.
As at the time of filing this report, it is not immediately clear why the residents carried out the attack against Governor Bello.
