Students in Osun state-owned tertiary institutions, on Monday, held hostage the deputy governor of the state, Titi Laoye-Tomori, at the State Secretariat, in Osogbo.
Before the hostage-taking incident, the students had marched to the secretariat to protest against the prolonged strike by their lecturers.
Their lecturers have been on an indefinite strike for over three months ago, over unpaid salaries and other reasons.
Majority of the students are from Osun State Polytechnic, Iree; Osun State College of Technology, Esa Oke; Colleges of Education in Ila and Ilesa.
After they arrived at the main gate of the state secretariat, Punch reports that they barricaded the entry points.
Shortly after, the Deputy Governor, was driven to the secretariat but the students prevented her convoy from entering the premises.
Some of the students were said to have laid on the ground in front of her car while some other, laid behind the car, hence, making it impossible for the vehicle of the deputy governor to enter the premises or retreat.
