Frozen accounts: Fayose knows fate on Dec. 2
Taiwo’s order followed the adoption of written addresses and other evidences by parties involved in the suit.
Fayose’s two bank accounts domiciled with Zenith Bank Plc, Ado-Ekiti were on June 20 frozen by the EFCC. Fayose, through his lawyer, Mike Ozekhome, approached the court for an order ordering EFCC, the first respondent, and Zenith Bank, second respondent, to immediately lift the freeze order on the accounts.
Ozekhome argued that the action of EFCC in placing an embargo on his client’s personal bank accounts was illegal, unconstitutional and an infringement on the Fundamental Rights of the applicant.
He said EFCC acted contrary to Section 308 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of NIgeria,1999, as amended which granted immunity to a sitting governor not to be prosecuted in either civil or criminal matters.
NAN also reports that some of the prayers sought by Fayose in suit number: FHC/AD/CS/27/2016 included an order of the court for immediate lifting of the freeze order on the accounts and to make same functional.
Ozekhome urged the court to grant all the prayers of the applicant while cost should also be awarded in favour of his client.
While adopting his written address and 10 paragraph-affidavit, counsel to EFCC, Mr Rotimi Oyedepo, told the court that the commission acted within its statutory and constitutional power, citing Section 6(5)(b) of the Money Laundering Prohibition Act,2011.
He also argued that Sections 19,34 of the EFCC Establishment Act empowers the commission to carry out every action or step taken against the applicant.
“By the provision of this sections, EFCC has power to instruct Zenith Bank to place ” Stop Order” on the account suspected to be proceeds of alleged crime,” he said.

3 orgasms per week will boost a woman’s self esteem, says sexpert
Pennington said regular orgasms help women reduce stress, boost self esteem and to maintain a happy relationship.
The sexpert said this on Monday when she appeared on ITV’s This Morning show to speak on her new book, ‘The Orgasm Prescription For Women’.
Pennington noted that many women are unable to have an orgasm because they are distracted and/or worried.
“She needs to be mentally turned on. If in her head she is worried about what she didn’t finish today or what will the kids eat tomorrow or how she looks and smells and tastes then it will be much harder. Things going on in a woman’s mind can stop her reaching the big O.
She said orgasm is important to women as it aids in “personal empowerment, self acceptance and self love”.
“Women should be having three orgasms a week as a minimum. The benefits are numerous – stress relief from depression and anxiety, it makes us nicer, and it’s a pain reliever.
“For me as a physician, if a women is not achieving orgasm, or she doesn’t have any interest in sex, that could be a sign of something else going wrong. Such as diabetes or high blood pressure, or other serious concerns,” Andrea explained.
“Normally hormones are the reason you can’t orgasm if you are trying, as the body loses testosterone as we age – but if it isn’t due to hormones, then get your blood pressure checked.”

Enroll Children in School or Face Full Wrath of Law – Borno Government to Parents
“Any parent either out of ignorance or willingly refuses to send his child to school will be made to face the full wrath of the law,” Alhaji Kaka-Shehu Lawan, the Borno State Attorney General/Commissioner of Justice said.
He told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Maiduguri that government was already offering parents several incentives to encourage them send their children to schools.
The commissioner noted that it was lamentable that some parents still refused to send their children to school in spite of the incentives.
“The government has directed the Borno State Basic Education Board (SUBEB) to mobilise all children of school age to be enrolled in schools.
“It has also invested heavily in constructing new schools and renovating those vandalised by Boko Haram terrorists in the course of the insurgency, so as to provide conducive atmosphere for learning”.
Lawan said that government had also introduced free school bus services and other incentives to attract children back to schools.

Financial autonomy for LGs: NLC commends NASS over bill
Dr Peter Ozo-Eson, NLC General Secretary gave the commendation in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Monday.
He said that the autonomy if granted to local councils would ensure better service delivery to the people.
It will be recalled that on Nov.2, a bill to grant financial autonomy to local government councils in the country, scaled through the second reading in the House of Representatives.
The bill sponsored by Rep. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha (PDP-Abia), seeks to amend Section 162 of the 1999 Constitution.
NAN reports that Section 162 provides for the State Joint Local Government Account, into which all revenues accruing to the local governments from the federal and state governments are paid.
Ozo-Eson said that NLC had over time called for the autonomy of the local governments.
He said that local government was the closest to the people and therefore must be empowered to deliver services to the people.
“One thing that is clearly undermining the capacity of local government to function is the over bearing presence or authority of the state governor, particularly the joint account issue.
“Therefore, financial autonomy is something we believe in, and we think should be institutionalised so that the local government can function properly.
“The only thing that we have also pointed out is that the payment of teachers’ salary should be given a first charge.
“Once these two things are reconciled, we are for Local Government Financial autonomy.”
He reiterated that the joint account by state and local government should be abolished and councils should be given financial autonomy.

Why Judges Accused of Corruption Were Suspended – Chief Justice of Nigeria
Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) on Monday said the judiciary remained resolute and committed to upholding its independence.
He said all courts in the country were empowered to adjudicate with utmost fairness and justice as prescribed in the Constitution and the law.
He said the decision of the National Judicial Council, last week, to suspend seven judges accused of corruption, showed the desire of the judiciary to preserve its independence.
Mr. Mohammed said this on Monday during the swearing-in of Amina Augie and Ejembi Eko as justices of the Supreme Court in Abuja.
The NJC announced the suspension of the judges on Friday after initially declining to do so, arguing that there were no evidence of wrongdoing against the judges.
The judges had earlier been arrested by the State Security Service for allegedly receiving bribes.
“Certainly, the decision of the National Judicial Council at its last meeting reflects our desire to preserve this independence.
“Hence, we proclaimed to the world that any judicial officer that is standing trial will cease to perform judicial functions.
“The Council took this stand following communications it received from the Attorney General of the Federation that he was embarking on the prosecution of the affected judicial officers for the offences disclosed against them,” he said.
However, he said: “We must not forget that we operate a constitutional democracy, which clearly prescribes the powers accorded to each organ of the state.
“I therefore wish to state without fear of contradiction that the third arm of government will remain resolute in its commitment and resolve to uphold its independence,” Mr. Mohammed said.
Mr. Mohammed urged the new justices to continue to be diligent in the discharge of their duties.
“You must remain blind to personality and status, and remain the hope of all men, whether common or uncommon.
“Hence, the integrity and impartiality of our courts must not be in question or compromised.
“I am confident that with the institutions and initiatives that we have put in place, the Nigerian Judiciary will evolve to meet the high standards demanded by our citizens,” the CJN said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Mr. Eko was a Justice of the Court of Appeal, before his elevation to the Supreme Court.
He also served in Benue State High Court between 1989 and 2007.
Mr. Eko, a Benue native, obtained a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.), Law/Jurisprudence from the University of Ife, Ile-Ife, in 1976.
Mrs. Augie was a justice of the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division.

President Buhari inaugurates 200-bed hospital in Benin
President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday in Benin inaugurated the remodelled 200-bed capacity ultra modern central hospital.
Buhari, who said he was impressed with the edifice, noted that it was ”the best way to do things and the best thing to do for the people” by any government.
While commending Gov. Adams Oshiomhole’s efforts at uplifting the lives of the people, Buhari said “I respect his sacrificing his personal comfort to constructing the edifice”.
He said that he was in the state for the third time to inaugurate projects executed by the governor. Earlier, Oshiomhole said that since the hospital was established in 1902, successive governments had tried to renovate the hospital.
He, however, said he was embarrassed by the state of the medical facility during his first visit and decided that rather than continue with the “piece-meal renovation work; we decided to demolish and rebuild the hospital.’’
Oshiomhole stressed that this was with the conviction that public health facility should not be inferior to private one’s. The governor said that one way to show equality was for government to provide good health facilities and stop lamenting about foreign medical tourism.
Similarly in her opening remarks, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr Aihanuwa Erigie, said that the hospital was established in 1902 with initial bed capacity of 10.
She disclosed that each section was equipped with state of the art facilities.

Unbelievable!!! Woman Dies on Her Own Wedding Day...What Her Husband Did After That Will Shock You
In what will come across as a really shocking development, a woman has died on her wedding day only an hour before the ceremony.
A South African woman identified as Nana Mkhize, has died on her wedding day.
According to Daily Sun SA, the woman's fiance, Fana Maphumulo, had waited 17 long years to marry the only woman he had ever loved.
And when she died only an hour before the ceremony, the brave bridegroom refused to cancel the ceremony.
Fana stood alone at the altar and swore undying love to his late wife.
Daily Sun SA reports that in October, Nana Mkhize, 42, first told her future husband Fana Maphumulo, 43, that she had dreamt she would die on her wedding day.
Neither of them took any notice of the terrible dream. But it became a reality when Nana, from G section in Umlazi, south of Durban, died an hour before tying the knot.
She had been admitted to hospital the day before the wedding, complaining of feeling weak.
Hundreds of guests had already arrived at the beautifully decorated wedding venue at Kloof Civic Centre, near Durban to witness Nana’s big day on Saturday.
Fana, from Hammersdale, west of Durban stood strong and continued with the wedding ceremony. He asked a pastor to pray as he placed both rings on his finger.
The couple had been in a relationship for more than 20 years. They have four kids and had been planning the wedding for many years.
Fana said the wedding plans took so long because they never had enough money to marry.
Yesterday, Fana spoke to Daily Sun about the terrible tragedy that started to unfold on Friday.
“I spoke to her in the afternoon. She was lying in hospital but she promised she’d be with me on our big day,” he said. “I also called her on Saturday morning. She didn’t answer but I didn’t think anything was wrong because her condition wasn’t critical,” said Fana.
He said he had hoped his wife would be discharged before the ceremony.
“But at about 9am, an hour before the wedding, I received a terrible call. I was told that my wife had died. I was shocked and devastated. I cried but I told the pastor to continue with the ceremony anyway.”
He said his wife had foreseen her own death. “In October, she had a dream in which an old woman warned her she would die on her wedding day.
“We didn’t take it seriously. We laughed and even joked about it. We thought nothing bad could happen because we’re a praying family,” Fana said.
Their eldest daughter, Samkelisiwe Maphumulo, 23, said she lost a loving mum. “She made sure we never went to bed on empty stomachs. I still can’t believe she’s dead.”
Mfanufikile Mhlongo, 43, the best man, confirmed that Fana and Nana could have been married a long time before.
“He worked hard to make their wedding day a success. He worked at car washes and sometimes drove taxis. I was glad that their wedding day had finally come but I’m shocked by the way it ended. “Life is not fair,” he said.
