The Nigerian Military and Police have expressed their readiness to ensure a crime-free Yuletide and New Year celebration across the country. They vowed to provide maximum, round-theclock security cover, to keep at bay criminal elements, who would attempt to unleash violence during the Christmas and New Year festivities.

The Acting Director, Army Public Relations (DAPR), Brig. Gen. Rabe Abubakar, and the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Mr. Don Awunah, a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), gave the assurances in separate responses to Sunday Telegraph’s enquiries.

Speaking on the measures being put in place to guarantee safety of lives and property during the season, Awunah said the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Ibrahim Idris, has ordered State Command Commissioners of Police (CPs), to develop actionable security plans needed for a crimefree Yuletide.

He further disclosed that all Police formations will also be on high alert before, during and after the celebrations. “The Commissioners of Police in all State Commands (and the FCT) are directed by the IGP to emplace adequate security measures to ensure and guarantee crime-free Yuletide and New Year festivities.

“An action plan has been drawn by all police formations to ensure that the end –of-year celebrations are hitch free. However, members of the public are advised to be extra vigilant and report any suspicious movements and activities to the police,” the FPRO said.

On his part, Grig-Gen Abubakar pledged robust collaboration with relevant security agencies, to continually and continuously neutralise threats to national security.

Abubakar, however, enjoined the citizenry to maintain a high sense of vigilance, and to report suspicious persons and objects to security agencies. His words: “The military and other security agencies will ensure appropriate measures are in place at all times to secure our country from any clandestine individuals and groups that could hide under any guise to harm our citizens.

“In addition to our operational activities, we equally request our citizens to be wary of strange persons and objects and report such to security agencies. We have to be vigilant not only during Yuletide, but at all times,” he said.
