New Telegraph gathered that the program will immediately commence at Sir Michael Otedola Housing Estate, Odoragunshin, Epe, CHOIS City, Agbowa, Oba Adeboruwa Estate, Igbogbo, Ikorodu, Alhaja Adetoun Mustapha Estate, Ojokoro and Hon. Olaitan Mustapha Estate, Ojokoro which are ready for immediate habitation.
Speaking while flagging- off the scheme at Alhaja Adetoun Mustapha Estate, Ojokoro, Ambode described the housing scheme policy with a reviewed price as his administration’s initiative to address housing deficit in the state, saying that access to decent and affordable houses had remained a challenge to many Lagosians particularly under the current economic recession in the country.
The governor, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Commerce, Benjamin Olabinjo explained 80 per cent of the 12 estates would be dedicated to rent-to-own while 20per cent will be rented out to interested citizens.
Earlier, the state Commissioner for Housing, Prince Gbolahan Lawal said that the state government would continue to engage the services of facility managers to ensure that the estates were well maintained.
Lawal said: “In line with Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s policy of inclusion, several public officers and employees of organised private sector, traders, artisans, and the rest are poised to benefit from these laudable initiatives.
“This program allows the tenant to live on the property while paying towards ownership at a fixed rent within the period of 10years,” he explained. Some of the 12 housing estates dedicated to the Rent-To-Own policy are spread over the three Senatorial Districts in the state.
