It was reported that the security operatives had, on a tip-off, stormed the market in the morning and made straight to the Bureau De Change section where some traders had, on seeing them, taken to their heels.
Shops were reportedly raided and foreign currencies were recovered from them.
It was learnt that the arrested suspects are currently cooling off at the Onitsha Army barracks.
A trader who pleaded anonymity expressed surprise that the security operatives could storm the market in search of illegal Bureau de Change operators when there were thousands of them along the major roads and some strategic positions where even government officials patronised them.
As at the time of filling this report, the section looked deserted as traders especially the operators fled to avoid being arrested.
