Dismissed soldier nabbed for car snatching syndicate

Soldier

– A suspected car snatcher from the northern part of Nigeria has been arrested and paraded by the Nigeria police in Delta

– The surprising part of the issue is that the suspect is a dismissed soldier resident in the Tudun Wada area of Zaria

The Delta State Police command on Saturday, paraded a dismissed soldier who is a member of a car snatching syndicate that tours the Eastern states through to Abuja and Kaduna on a car snatching spree.

The arrested soldier paraded at the Delta police headquarters
The dismissed soldier, identified as Corporal Sani Abubakar, resident in Tudun Wada, Zaria, Kaduna state with a Nigerian Army Identity card bearing his name and P/No 2005/NA/57/3561, was reportedly nabbed by the police when he appeared to escort a Toyota Avalon car from Benin to Kaduna.

The Delta State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zanna, said the prime suspect in the car snatching business, Stanley Vincent, 29, was arrested but confessed that the soldier was the one who assists the group in ferrying the stolen cars to Kaduna and Abuja.

Consequently, the police ordered the suspect to place a call to the soldier to appear and collect the Toyota Avalon, but was unaware that detectives were around who swooped on him as soon as he arrived.

Ibrahim Zanna said the suspect was supposed to be in the 3 battalion of the Nigerian Army but deserted and opted to join the car snatching syndicate as the easiest was to make money.

“When the cars are snatched, he conveys them to Kaduna and Abuja. They have their points where they sell of those vehicles. But now he has been arrested. He has assisted the police to recover several vehicles. He was lured to Benin to convey a Toyota Avalon to Kaduna where he was arrested”, the commissioner of police said.

But the suspect said that he was unaware that the car he was asked to collect was a stolen vehicle.

He said “I don’t know that he is a robber. One Alhaji who is a serving soldier who does vehicle business sent me to collect the vehicles from the guy. That was when I was arrested. I did not know that the car was stolen, neither did I know that the guy is a robber.”

He, however, said that he believes that God will rescue him and set him free as he is unaware of the entire incident.
