EXTRA: Senate begins plenary at 10am – first time in years

The senate on Tuesday began its plenary at its scheduled time of 10 am.

This is the first time in years that the upper legislative chamber is sticking to time.

Traditionally, the senate is scheduled to begin its session at 10 am, but this was not the case in the past where plenary sessions started at past 11 am.

Earlier, Senate President Bukola Saraki held a leadership meeting in his temporary office at the national assembly complex at 9:30 am.

By 9:50 am, he and the leaders of the senate walked into the red chamber, and by 9:57 am he was seated.

However, about 25 senators were present at the time, so they waited for another 10 minutes for some of their members to arrive.

The session commenced with the consideration of the contents of the votes of proceedings.

But an hour later, it adjourned its sitting to Wednesday as a mark of respect for a late member of the house of representatives.

When the senate resumes on Wednesday, it will begin a debate on Nigeria’s economic problems.
