Army troops from the 13 Brigade in Calabar had recently cordoned off the residence of one of the most wanted militants, identified as ‘G1’, after the arrest of ‘G2’ and ‘G3’who are currently providing useful information to security operatives.
The most wanted militant, G1, is said to be at large.
According to one of the village heads in the neighbouring community who craved anonymity, the militants came in from the creeks near Esighi and engaged the soldiers in gun battle.
“The militants went to invade the home of their leader which has been taken over by the military. We heard gunshots for more than three hours and at the end of it I can confirm that five soldiers were killed while another one died later in the morning.
The attack started around 1am and lasted for over two hours.
