Ali's youngest daughter fought back tears when it was her turn to pay tribute to her late father.
It was an emotional night for Laila Ali, daughter of late boxing legend Muhammad Ali, as she delivered a speech in her dad’s honour at the 2016 BET Awards which held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
After actor Jamie Foxx had paid his tribute to the boxing great, it was Ali’s youngest daughter’s turn to do same to her father, fighting back tears.
‘As my dad grew older, he evolved in his mind, his heart, and his spirit,’ Laila said in a heartfelt speech. ‘But one thing that never changed was his love and gratitude for all people.’
‘These past few weeks my father’s generosity and love has been matched by a worldwide outpouring of love and reverence for him and our entire family,’ she continued after initially pausing to hold back tears.
‘We are all honored and grateful for all the love, kindness, and appreciation has been shown to him in return. My father also once said if people love each other as much as they love me, it would be a better world. If he was here today, he would humbly ask you to pray not just for our family, but for all of mankind.’
Muhammad Ali passed on June 4, 2016 aged 74.
