The Senate might issue an order of arrest against the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami.
The Attorney-General of the Federation, who is also the Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami, on Thursday, refused to appear before the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters, Punch reports.
The Senate had on Tuesday, after a two-hour closed session, summoned Malami, over the planned prosecution of Bukola Saraki and Ike Ekweremadu, for allegedly forging the Senate Standing Order 2015.
The decision came following a motion moved by the Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Dino Melaye, who relied on order 14 and 52, to demand the approval of his colleagues for his two prayers including the invitation of the AGF and the genuineness of the rule book.
Malami was mandated to appear before the Senate panel within two days which has since expired. It is now left for the Chairman of the senate panel, David Umaru to take the next action against Malami for failing to honour the invitation.
It is believed that the Senate might issue an order for the arrest of Malami for his refusal to honour the invitation.
It would be recalled that the Senate had before issued an order for the arrest of former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Alhaji Ibrahim Lamorde over his refusal to honour invitation by Senator Samuel Anyanwu-led Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions to answer questions bordering on money laundering allegations.
