The Ayalodi of Akure Kingdom, Ondo State, High Chief Dada Oyateru was in the early hours of Tuesday murdered by suspected armed robbers at his residence in Oke-Ijebu area of Akure.
When DAILY POST visited the home of the deceased yesterday, we gathered that he was strangled to death following his refusal to give the bandits money.
According to the junior wife,Titilola, who narrated the incident, “a group of three armed men broke into our house by 1:00am in the early hours of Tuesday.
“They entered the house through my late husband’s room after cutting the burglary proof upstairs and held us hostage for about four hours.
“They pointed gun at baba, demanding for the money which he brought home last night.
“He pleaded with them that he didn’t have any money at home and usually didn’t keep money at home too, but they refused to yield to his begging, threatening that they would kill us if we didn’t give them money.
“My husband was supposed to go for a medical check-up at the Federal Medical Centre, Owo on Monday, but could not go because he had no money on him as a result of the recent nationwide strike that paralysed bank operations and other business transactions.
“He begged them not to kill him, imploring them to go with his two cars; and promised to go to the bank the following day to withdraw money from his bank account.
“Baba begged them to point at wherever they wanted him to drop the money for them, but they insisted that they would kill him if he didn’t give them money that night.”
“They tied my husband with ropes and asked us to lie down.
“They later pounced on my husband and stifled life out of him by twisting his neck round.
“They ransacked the whole house and everyone, carting away valuables such as laptop, phones, jewelries and my N35, 000 cash which I collected from a cooperative society in town.
“They also escaped with the deceased’s red Toyota Camry muzzle car at exactly 4:30am,” she narrated.
