The demolition which took place at Ohuba Community in Ohaji/Egbema LGA of the state was carried out in conjunction with the State Government.
The alleged kidnappers – Anderson Ahaneku (30) and 27-year-old John Chima who are also said to be currently on the run, were alleged to have been involved in the kidnap of prominent personalities in the state.
Following intelligence reports which revealed that the Ohuba area was an abode and den of kidnappers in the state, the police stormed the area in April 2016.
The State Deputy Governor, Prince Eze Madumere, speaking with newsmen on Saturday at the police headquarters in Owerri, the state capital said that the state government would not support people who acquire wealth through ill-means, noting that “This will go a long way in serving as a deterrent to other criminals, who have taken kidnapping and other heinous crimes as business ventures.
“The demolition of houses of known kidnappers will continue until kidnapping is finally rooted out of Imo State completely,” the deputy governor stated.
Confirming the demolition, the State Commissioner of Police, CP, Taiwo Lakanu, said the command was ever ready to deal with kidnappers and others inclined to crime and criminalities in the state.
Lakanu said, “We are going to pull down more houses of these hoodlums in the state. Pulling down their houses is a step in a right direction. When your house is burnt because of crime, it would make you turn a new leaf,” the CP added even as he vowed that the police in the state would work 24 hours to ensure that criminals were shown the way out of the state.
