Nigerian Senate Calls Off the Summon of CCT Chairman, Danladi Umar Over Saraki's Trial

Ahead of the report summon of the chairman of Code of Conduct Tribunal by the Senate in a bid to kill Bukola Saraki's CCT trial, has met a brick wall as lawmakers makes a U-turn.

We reported it here few hours ago that the Nigerian Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, had on Monday, summoned Danladi Umar, the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, to appear before it on Thursday to answer questions on allegations of bribery against him.

Umar is presiding over the corruption trial of the Senate president, Bukola Saraki, who is facing a 13-count of false assets declaration and fraud before the CCT.

The summon came hours after the CCT judge had ruled that Saraki’s trial would sit daily between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m., with a one hour break in between, till the end of the trial.

In a Tweet by SaharaReporters, it seems the senate committe has retracted from its earlier statement and cancelled the summon with immediate effect, "Ethics Committee of @NGRSenate has called off the summon extended to the chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal Danladi Umar," the tweet read.
