Although, despite several efforts to root out this long age menace, Post-Nigeria has gathered that President Buhari is still running a corrupt government.
Political pundits have argued that the All Progressive Congress-led, APC, government has only succeeded in changing top officials in government offices, but has been unable to root out corrupt practices and does not seem to be making any efforts to do so.
As at April 20, all efforts made to end the lingering fuel crisis across the country have so far proved abortive, as commuters still queue for several hours to buy fuel, while black marketers continue to sell the product at exorbitant prices.
Post-Nigeria gathered that some fuel stations who were previously not having the product are presently selling fuel with commuters queuing several meters in some stations, while others were practically empty with few vehicular movements.
After painstaking investigations, Post-Nigeria discovered that some filling stations had adjusted their pump meters, displaying the official N86.50k, yet selling the product between N120 to N150 per litre against the official N86.50k per litre as subsidized by the Federal Government.
According to a Private Driver, Godwin Ernest, who was at NIPCON filling station at Banex junction Abuja, he stated that major fuel stations are still engaging in sharp practices despite the fact that President Buhari is the Minister of Petroleum resources.
“In F.O filling station at Maitama near the catholic church area, you will see N86 displayed there, but when you buy fuel of N3000, it will be shut by N500, that is why they are refusing to sell in gallons in those fuel stations, as their pranks will be easily discovered.
“I prefer to come and queue in NIPCO for hours to obtain fuel as their price and meter is ok, rather than patronizing F.O filing station, among several others who are duping people.” Ernest said.
This accusation is coming barely few days after the former member of the House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee on Fuel Subsidy, Boniface Emenalo, indicted the Chairman of Forte Oil, Femi Otedola, for receiving millions of dollars as subsidy, while the products are diverted at the end of the day.
Ernest however, accused the Department of Petroleum Resources, DPR, for folding its arm while all these privileged few individuals reap ordinary Nigerians of their hard earned money.
A commercial driver, Usman Abdurahim said, “The issue of shut changing people by reducing their meter is true, I have experienced it several times, that is why we commercial drivers are always seen queuing in filling stations where they are selling at the correct price and litre.
“Like here I am, NIPCO is ok, my full tank is N4200, but in those filling stations (Forte Oil) you see few people patronizing them, I fill my tank there with N4600”, Abdurahim said.
Post-Nigeria, also gathered that some government owned filling stations have also joined the bandwagon of those cheating customers as DPR in the last few months have gone asleep.
By constitution, DPR has the statutory responsibility of ensuring compliance to petroleum laws, regulations and guidelines in the Oil and Gas Industry.
The discharge of these responsibilities involve monitoring of operations at drilling sites, producing wells, production platforms and flow stations, crude oil export terminals, refineries, storage depots, pump stations, retail outlets, any other locations where petroleum is either stored or sold, and all pipelines carrying crude oil, natural gas and petroleum products.
