The 12 Years A Slave actor was made a 'Commander of the Order of the British Empire' (CBE) by the Duke of Cambridge during an official ceremony held at Buckingham Palace in London this morning, Tuesday, October 27.
The 38 year-old star was overcome with emotion as he spoke to Prince William in front of the large crowd assembled, beaming with pride as he was recognised for his services to drama.
The actor, who grew up in north London, has an illustrious career, receiving an Oscar nomination and winning a BAFTA in 2013 for his moving performance in 12 Years A Slave.
His sister, CNN presenter Zain Asher, recently discussed his CBE glory in an interview with the network, saying her talented brother has always dreamed of acting.
Chiwetel was dressed to impress in a grey suit and black brogues for the all-important moment, looking dapper in his smart attire.
