President Buhari holds closed-door meeting with Kukah

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday met behind closed-door with the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Bishop Matthew Kukah.

The meeting which took place inside the President’s office inside the Presidential Villa, Abuja lasted less than 30 minutes.

Kukah, who is a member of the National Peace Committee for the 2015 General Elections has been in the eye of the storm since his recent statements faulting the investigations being conducted by Buhari on some of the actions of the former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.

The Catholic priest was quoted to have said that for conceding victory to Buhari in the March 28 presidential election, Jonathan should not be probed.

The comment attracted criticism from stakeholders who felt the bishop was supporting corruption with his statement.

Kukah, who briefed State House correspondents after a meeting members of the peace committee, led by Gen. Abdusalami Abubakar (retd.), had with Buhari on August 11, had said the President was advised to follow the rule of law in his anti-graft war.

He said Buhari, you remember that the country was no longer under military rule.

After the Thursday meeting with the President, the bishop did not talk to journalists.

Kukah who left the premises at about a few minutes before 11am, told reporters that he had a 12.30pm flight to catch as he walked briskly pass them.

Presidency sources approached by newsmen said they were not privy to the subject of the President’s discussion with the bishop because it was a “one-on-one meeting.”
