12,000 Nigerian refugees repatriated from Cameroon

About 12,000 Nigerians who fled from their various communities to Cameroon as a result of the activities of terrorists in the troubled North-Eastern states have returned to Nigeria.

It was learnt that the returnees, most of whom were from Borno State, arrived Nigeria through the border post in Sahuda, Mubi South, Adamawa State.

“The returnees are currently being screened by the Nigerian Immigration Service and other security agencies,” the Senior Information Officer, National Emergency Management Agency, Mr. Sani Datti, said.

According to Datti, NEMA had so far received 1,121 of the returnees from the Nigerian Immigration Service at the border post, out of which 650 have been transported to Borno State, while the remaining were still at Malkohi Internally Displaced Persons camp in Yola.

He stated that the agency was providing food and non-food items as well as medical cover for the returnees at the border, while awaiting the conclusion of the immigration and security screening.

“Arrangements have been concluded to relocate the returnees to a new camp in Fufore in Adamawa State, for proper care. NEMA has established contacts with the Borno State government over the returnees who are mostly from the state,” Datti said.
