Liverpool and Brazil star, Phillipe Coutinho, has sensationally handed in a transfer request to leave the club barely hours after Liverpool owners, Fenway Sports Group revealed that the mercurial attacking midfielder wasn't for sale at any price.
Coutinho was one of the best players in the premier league last season, and has been courted by Real Madrid and Barcelona, but Liverpool have rejected bids for the Brazilian, the last being a 100 million euros bid from Barcelona- stating that he will not be leaving the club;
We wish to offer clarity as regards to our position on a possible transfer of Philippe Coutinho,” a
statement on behalf of FSG read.
“The club’s definitive stance is that no offers for Philippe will be considered and he will remain a member of Liverpool Football Club when the summer window closes.”
The 25 year old Coutinho just signed a new 5 year deal with Liverpool in January, making Liverpool to be at a strong bargaining position, but it's clear that the player's isn't interested any longer and according to Sky Sports, he has handed in a transfer request as Barcelona plan to make him Neymar's replacement.
'Philippe Coutinho has issued Liverpool with an official transfer request following the owners' statement that he is not for sale', according to Sky sources.
Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp, said;"If FSG is saying something like this, then that’s the statement. I’ve said it already a few times, but maybe it’s not been 100% clear, but now you can read it - maybe that’s the difference!," he noted.
"That’s the way it will go and there’s nothing else to say about this."
