Mother of the slain officer, Hajia Rakiya Alkali while speaking exclusively to the Sunday Telegraph said: “Whoever did this to my son will never go unpunished by Allah.”
According to her: “The only thing I want now is for justice to prevail.
Inasmuch as I pray for my son’s soul to rest in peace, whoever did this since he didn’t witchhunt or hurt anybody, whether the person is a family member or an outsider, it is only God that will punish them.
“I want the government to bring the killers of my son to book. My son seeks justice. I pray the government is ready and willing to bring them (suspects) to face the law, but if not, with the help of God vengeance will take its course.” One of his sisters (names withheld), who spoke while weeping, said: “Mohammed’s nickname is ‘Justice’ and that he earned the name ‘Justice’ right from his youth days.
He had always believed in justice and hated injustice. So, justice must prevail, the perpetrators must face the wrath of the law. We want justice to prevail and if nothing is done, God will do His own.”
Earlier, when the Sunday Telegraph visited the family home, it was locked and nobody was found until a friend to the late Police officer’s father, retired Magistrate Abubakar Bawa Bosso told our Correspondent that Alhaji Yakubu Alkali, a retired Commissioner of Police had left for Kaduna on Wednesday; but he led our Correspondent to the deceased mother who had sympathisers with her in one of the family houses in Bosso Road.
Bosso, while lamenting the level of inhuman act meted on the late Alkali, said: “Mohammed has always been an easy going person and right from his growing up days love peace and justice.”
Alkali, who was killed along with some of his colleagues in the violence that characterised the rerun elections to fill vacant legislative seats in Rivers State, was buried in Bosso, Niger State, on Monday.
All attempts to get across to his father proved abortive as he was already out of the state. Family members and many sympathisers were at the compound.
