– Says President Muhammadu Buhari has a strong agenda on how to make this country better
An ambassadorial nominee, Ngozi Ukaeje said Nigeria needs to review it’s foreign policy in order for the country to develop.
She said this while answering questions during her screening by the Senate committee on Foreign Affairs in the National Assembly in Abuja on Wednesday, July 27.
Mrs Ukaeje who hails from Imo state, said Nigeria is playing a big role to other African countries.
However, she stated that although President Muhammadu Buhari has a strong agenda on how to make this country better, there are still other matters that need to be put in place.
“As a developing country, we tend to be playing a big role in Africa, our foreign policy has always been to take care of other African countries.
“Knowing fully well the national interest it takes to achieve that.
“There should be a review of our foreign policy.
“Even with the ongoing agenda of the president to fight corruption, develop outlet economy and insecurity.
“With this three, I will advise the foreign minister to do a memo to the president because the country has lost a lot.
“The main focus should be to review our foreign policy. This will help to develop our country,” she said.
However, after answering questions fielded by the lawmakers, Mrs Ukaeje was asked to “bow and go”.
President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday, June 9, released the list of Ambassadorial nominees.
This was disclosed after Saraki read out the list of the 47 ambassadors on the floor of the Senate.
Meanwhile, the Senate committee on foreign affairs on Tuesday, July 26, screened 15 ambassadorial nominees.
These nominees were screened at the National Assembly in Abuja.
Although some of the nominees have been screened, Senator Monsurat Summonu, the chairman Senate committee on Foreign Affairs said that the final confirmation will be announced at the plenary.
