Dr. Obiora Anthony Chukwuka
Dr. Obiora Anthony Chukwuka (Eziafakaego Nnokwa) is a big businessman in Nigeria. He is also a successful one at that. He has built a flourishing pharmaceutical company in Nigeria. He is the Executive Chairman, Greenlife Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Sea Green Pharmaceuticals Ltd. and St. Anthony’s Event Center Ltd., was born in Nnokwa, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State of Nigeria on July 18, 1963. He coincidently shares the same birthday with Nelson Mandela of South Africa. He attended Central School Nnokwa and Oraukwu Grammar School both in Anambra State.
He obtained Bachelors degree in Business Administration from University of Lagos and Masters Degree in Corporate Governance from Leeds Metropolitan University England United Kingdom. He also obtained’ post graduate diploma (PGD) in Management Consultancy from the same school. He was conferred with an honorary Doctorate Degree by Common Wealth University Belize in collaboration with London Graduate School, England.
This businessman of repute, came to Lagos in search of greener pastures when financial incapacitation did not allow him to immediately further his education, after his secondary education in 1980. On arrival in Lagos, he served as an apprentice with his Maternal cousin Chief LNC Uzoezie from Alor; who offered him apprenticeship in lady’s shoe selling business in a make shift shop at Balogun Market in Lagos.
ln March 4th 1983, he was settled by his master and he stared his own business in ladies shoes.
This business came to an abrupt end with the demolition of “illegal shops” in 1984, by the then Military Government of General Buhari/ Idiagbon regime. The challenges faced at this point in life coupled with the quest to better humanity based on his experience in Red Cross Society during his Secondary School days; became God’s propelling force that led him into the marketing of pharmaceutical products. This marked the turning point and the foundation of the man we all know and talk about today.
After a brief training in pharmaceutical business with little or nothing as cash, he started operation in Idumota of Lagos Island in 1985 as a Sole Proprietor. with the name Leton Medical Stores, this business letter metamorphosed to Caleb Pharmaceuticals Ltd Lagos.
With increase in business, it was incorporated as Greenlife Pharmaceutical Company Limited in J 995. He then gained the partnership of Chief Ebere Nwosu the Managing Director of the company today. Later In the year 2000, the business was licensed by the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN). With greater increase in patronage and the urge to cut a niche and distinction for his business, he relocated his business from Idumota to a more conducive business premises at IIupeju area of Lagos in 2003 where the Corporate Head Office is currently located.
The Company which had only four (4) employees with one Pharmacist in the year 2000 when it was licensed; presently boast of over 72 Pharmacists and other Para- medical Professionals. Other employees in the fold include Accountants, Economists among others. Greenlife Pharmaceuticals today has the employee’s strength running in hundreds of mostly graduates. It also has added some other companies in its fold.
This Company that started business with just three (3) products when it was registered in 2000 has now J 20 NAFDAC Registered Products in its kitty with “LONART” Anti malaria drug (A brand of Artemisinin Combination Therapy ‘ACT”) as flagship in its product portfolio.
Due to his love for Western education and his desire to be an authority and a professional in his business, in the year 2002, Dr. Chukwuka sought and secured admission into University of Lagos after 22years in business, from there he continued to study while doing business until he earned above-mentioned degrees including an award of a doctorate degree.
On the social front Dr. Obiora Chukwuka is a Member of the Council of Nigeria- British Chamber of Commerce (NBCC); Member Institute of Directors Nigeria (100), Member Nigeria red Cross Society, Member Nigeria – India Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NICCI). He is the National Vice President Oraukwu Old Boys Association; Member University of Lagos Alumni Association, Member Leeds Metropolitan University Alumni Association, England. Dr. Chukwuka is also a member of the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) United Kingdom, a Fellow of Chartered Institute of Administration of Nigeria (FClA). Fellow Certified Cost Managers of Nigeria (FCCM). He is currently the Public Relation Officer of the Association of Pharmaceutical Importers of Nigeria (APIN). At Community level, he was the past secretary 2001 to 2005 and currently the Chairman of Nnokwa Progress Union, Lagos Branch, among others.
Dr. Obi Chukwuka in his insatiable quest to better humanity has set up? Foundation named Eziafakaego (which means Good Name is better than Money). This Foundation has offered scholarship to various students up to tertiary level and sponsored Widow’s Empowerment and Youth Development Programmes. It· has also created various job and employment opportunities including sponsorship of free health day, it has also built houses for some less privileged in his community.
Dr. Chukwuka has just completed a multi-million naira Civic Center he built and donated to the community in Nnokwa in memory of his late Father, Mr. Obi Chukwuka (Eziafakaego 1). This was commissioned on 2nd January 2012. The above notwithstanding, Dr. Obi Chukwuka by the Grace of God has plans for other developmental programmes in his community and beyond.
In recognition of his outstanding services to humanity, he was among the 10 outstanding individuals recently nominated for the Lagos State Man of the Year Award (LASMAYA 2013) and he emerged second position in the contest behind Dr. Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat (Hon. Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure Lagos State). He has also received many honours and awards which include: the Distinguished Entrepreneurship Award from the University of Nigeria Alumni Association; Excellence Award from Red Cross Society of Nigeria; Development and Excellence Award from the Association of Anambra State Development union (MSDU) to mention but a few.
Dr. Obi Chukwuka is a devout Christian of Catholic denomination. He has received many awards from the church and has served in many capacities like harvest planning chairman of many parishes. He is a patrons of various groups in the church including Catholic Women Organization (CWO) of his home parish. He is a man of honour; simple and humble with serious aversion for any form of dishonesty. He is happily married to Mrs. Obiageli Chukwuka and are blessed with Children.
