Dasuki didn’t sponsor my election, I declared the N300m in my Zenith account– Fayose

Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has dismissed claims by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, that he received financial support from the Office of the National Security Adviser, ONSA, under the leadership of ex-National Security Adviser, Col Sambo Dasuki(rtd) during his 2014 governorship election.

The governor made the denial while confirming that he had N300m in one of his accounts as alleged by the anti-graft agency.

Recall that the anti-graft agency had accused Fayose of allegedly receiving N1.219bn from ONSA through his associate, Abiodun Agbele.

EFCC claimed that the money which was part of the arms fund, was paid in parts into the governor’s current account and company account, adding that Fayose personally moved N300m from the money into a fixed deposit account in April 2015.

But in a series of tweets by his Special Adviser on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Fayose rubbished EFCC’s reports that he deposited the money in April 2015, six months after he became governor.

He explained that the money was deposited into his fixed deposit account before he was sworn-in as governor and had declared it in his asset declaration form.

The tweets @OlayinkaLere reads, “I declared in my assets declaration form that I had N300m in my fixed deposit account in Zenith Bank #Fayose Speaks.”

“I did not get money from the NSA Office to fund my election. It is just a conspiracy; it will fail like that of 2006.

“By the end of this month, we are starting a social welfare scheme in which 7,000 people will be getting N5, 000 per month #FayoseSpeaks

“We deceive ourselves too much in this country. Even our population that they said is 150 million is not true.”
