The immediate past Governor of Cross River State, Liyel Imoke, has been quizzed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at the commission’s office in Port Harcourt about his alleged role in the $115m (N23billion) bribe allegedly disbursed by a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke.
The commission wrote on its official Facebook page,
"A former Governor of Cross Rivers State, Chief Liyel Imoke was on Wednesday quizzed by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in Port- Harcourt, Rivers State, for his alleged involvement in the N500million collected by the Cross Rivers State’s Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, Mr. Ntufam John Okon, from the sleazy $115million, a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Allison- Madueke lodged with Fidelity Bank in controversial circumstances during the 2015 electioneering campaign period.
"Imoke arrived the Port- Harcourt's office of the EFCC, by 10:15am on Wednesday, and is answering questions being posed to him by his investigators. Also, a former Deputy Governor of Edo State, Chief Lucky Imasuen and former Secretary to the State Government of Edo State, Pastor Osagie Ize Iyamu, have also been interrogated by operatives of the EFCC, for collecting a sum of N700Million (Seven Hundred Million Naira only) from the same $115million Diezani's funds."
