The commissioner, who disclosed this in answer to questions from journalists after his maiden media briefing, however, declined further details on the arrests.
He stated that a high-powered investigative team from the force headquarters was in the best position to provide such details at the appropriate time.
On the issue of one Corporal Chukwu, a police officer, who was arrested on the orders of the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Solomon Arase, he said the case was being x-rayed, adding that “a lot of searchlight has been beamed on him; he have got testimonies about him; if at the end of the day he is found culpable, the full weight of the law will come on him. But he remains innocent until proved otherwise.”
While commiserating with families of the victims, he assured that the police “have put some measures in place to ensure safety and security in the State.
“Let me also advise on the issue of rumour mongering to create fear in the minds of the members of the public and the need for people in that habit to stop the trend but report appropriately to law enforcement agents.”
While disclosing efforts made so far towards improving security in the State, Ojukwu, who assumed duty after the recent Nimbo attack identified kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism and car snatching as the major security challenges facing the State.
Some of the suspects paraded included eleven persons allegedly involved in armed robbery and illegal manufacturing of fire arms.
The suspects included an 80-year-old man, who is being accused of gun-running.
Items recovered from the gang included one cut to size double barrel gun, six locally made double barrel short guns, 10 locally made single barrel short guns, two single barrel long guns and four cartridges.
