Kerber stuns Serena to win Australian Open final

Serena Williams failed to match Steffi Grad’s Grand Slam haul of 22 major titles, after she was defeated in the final of this year’s Australian Open.

The American lost to Angelique Kerber 6-4 3-6 6-4 on Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne on Saturday.

With this victory, Kerber becomes the first German to win a major since Grad won the last of her slams at Roland Garros in 1999

Serena was however a class act even in defeat.

“Congratulations Angie, you were the best player this tournament. I really hope you enjoy this moment. You truly deserve it,” she said.
