Ex-governor's ADC, 3 children die in house fire

– The incident, which is believed to have been caused by an electrical fault, happened immediately after the Nigeria versus Sweden match

A former Aide De’ Camp to Ambassador Fidelis Tapgun, the second civilian governor of Plateau state, was early Monday, August 8, burnt to death with his three children.

Retired ASP Anthony Kwanmi, was burnt to death with his children, Theresa, Emmanuel and Kerry, in the fire which consumed his house at the Jenta Adamu community of Jos North local government area of the state, according to Daily Post.

The incident reportedly happened at about 1.30am just after the Nigeria vs Sweden match and was believed to have been caused by an electrical fault.

The report quoted the ward head of Jenta Adamu, Mr Kabala Bako, as saying: “It was about 1:30 am, when I was about going to bed, after watching the Nigeria vs Sweden match, I heard children screaming and calling for help.

“The youths rushed to rescue them, struggling to prevent the fire from spreading to surrounding buildings.

“We kept pouring water before the men of firefighters came to the scene and quickly put off the fire.

“When they finally went into the rooms, they discovered ASP Anthony Kwanmi and his three children were burnt, only their skeletons were hand picked to the hospital .”

The police public relations officer of Plateau state command, ASP Tyopev Mathias Terna, confirmed the incident adding that the distress call was received at about 3am.

“Our men and fire fighters help in putting out the fire.

“Unfortunately one Mr Kwanmi, a retired police officer and 3 of his children lost their lives in the inferno; while his wife and one family member are currently receiving treatment in the hospital,”

On July 31, 2016, six people also died while 21 were injured in an auto crash that involved two Mazda commercial buses and a Mercedes Benz cars on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

According to an eyewitness, the three vehicles were going to Lagos when the accident occurred.
