Most Senior Oba after Ooni of Ife dies

Most Senior Oba after Ooni of Ife dies

The Ooni of Ife’s second-in-command and the leader of Ile-Ife traditional kingmakers, the Obalufe (Orunto) of Iremo quarters, Oba Solomon Omisakin is dead, aged 85.

His death may have compounded the uncertainty surrounding the selection process of the new Ooni of Ife which has resulted in litigations.

However informed sources told Vanguard yesterday that; ‘’He had concluded the process of selection of the new Ooni before he died.’’

Oba Omisakin’s death is coming barely three months after the death of Oba Okunade Sijuwade in a London hospital.

The Obalufe is also the prime minister of Ife and oversees affairs in the town in the absence of an Ooni.

Vanguard gathered that Oba Omisakin’s death occurred at about 10 am yesterday at Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital OAUTH, Ile Ife.

Though the circumstance surrounding the death of the 85-year-old Obalufe was still sketchy at the time of filing this report, a close family source said the Octogenarian slumped in his house located at Eleyele Area of Ile Ife and was rushed to the hospital, where he later died around 10 am.

When contacted, the chairman of Eleyele Landlord Association, Chief Elijah Adeyele, confirmed the demise of Obalufe, saying he had been in his residence to condole with the family.

Also, one of the daughters of the late monarch, who spoke to newsmen on phone amidst sob, said: “he was rushed to hospital this morning and died few hours later.”

But at Iremo palace of Oba Omisakin, sympathisers were seen trooping in, while some others, who could not hold back tears, were weeping, despite the decision of other chiefs to keep mum on the development.

On what the death portend for the ongoing selection process of new monarch for the town, a source within Giesi Ruling House, said that his passage will not delay the process.

He added that the next chief in rank, Lowa of Ife, Oba Joseph Ijaodola, will step in and take full charge of the functions of Obalufe.

Chris Attoh says the sweetest thing about his son and wife, Damilola Adegbite

Chris Attoh says the sweetest thing about his son and wife, Damilola Adegbite

Ghanaian actor, Chris Attoh revealed in an interview with Encomium how his acting career started, stating that his passion was in directing and not in acting.
“My passion was directing. And I kept saying we are not there yet, a lot of directors in Ghana are not there yet, so I don’t want to put my face in it. But I kept getting scripts every week on my desk. So I ended up going to film school to learn directing, but it really happened when I met Shirley Frimpong Mansu, who was an old friend. She requested to meet me and she showed me a script. This was the script for life and living, it was my first in Ghana and it’s been one good story after another. I have tried to be careful and not end up doing too much.”
The married father of one also reveals how he met his wife, Nigerian actress, Damilola Adegbite
“It was the best day of my life. She made an impression the minute she came in and if someone told me that was my wife, I would have said oh you are joking. But it was magic at first sight. Damilola knows how to steal attention when she needs to and I think we hit it off right from there. We were great friends. We went through friendship, then working as colleagues, then been involved. So I have seen many interesting sides of her that I’m grateful for today. And I love every single minute of been with her.”
Describing the happiest moment in his life
“One of my happiest moments was when my son was born and every day I look at him, it’s an amazing feeling. And I don’t have too many sad moments.”

For the love of Dolapo Oni and former boss, Mo Abudu...

For the love of Dolapo Oni and former boss, Mo Abudu

You know how much we love to snoop around esp. when we notice that all is not well between parties that used be BFFs.

You see, all through Dolapo Oni's wedding to Adebite Sijuwade, there was no congratulatory message from her former boss, Mo Abudu, neither did she attend any of the events (trad. wedding in Lagos and white wedding in London).

We began asking questions from friends who knew what was happening and we were told the true story!

About four months ago, Television  sweetheart, Dolapo Oni called it quits with Ebony TV and  started her own talk show called “The Marcy Project” which airs on  DSTV’s Africa Magic.

Dolapo Oni started gracing the Nigerian screens as co-presenter of  MNet’s TV show, ‘53 extra’ before she moved on to EbonyLife TV as  co-host on Mo Abudu’s daily talk show, ‘Moments with Mo’.

They got so close and became like sisters.

“I’ve always wanted to have my own talk show and I know I wanted  something that would be true to myself as well as show a different side  of me that people rarely get to see. The idea came about in December  2013 and I told myself my show would be on air by 2015" Dolapo Oni revealed when she quit Ebony-life to start her own show..but now we know what went wrong!

According to reliable sources, there’s more to Marcy Dolapo Oni‘s departure from EbonyLife TV.

When Dolapo Oni joined Mo Abudu,  it was well understood by all parties that she, eventually, wanted to do her own show, which was one of the reasons she wanted to leave 53 Extra.

Therefore, her joining the ‘Moments with Mo’ was to ease her passage into her own place as a solo TV show host. Problems started however when The Marcy Project, Dolapo’s own TV show was ready and she couldn’t get a spot for it on EbonyLife TV.

Mo Abudu rejected the show.

Why?

"She did not think that the time was right for Dolapo to start her own show" this reliable source said.

As a result, Dolapo felt betrayed as she had been made promises before (leaving) abandoning 53 Extra.

Subsequently, she took her show, The Marcy Project, to Africa Magic and found acceptance there.

This move  angered Mo Abudu so much that she fired Dolapo Oni over the phone.

Yes, over the phone.

"Mo was angry that she took the show to Ebony Life TV's direct rival, Africa Magic. She saw Dolapo’s move as an indication that she does not know where her bread is buttered. She would have preferred Dolapo to have waited until ‘Moments with Mo’ returned to its pre-EbonyLife TV respected status and then perhaps branch out on her own." the source revealed.

There you have it!

Ubi Franklin turns marriage counsellor

Ubi Franklin turns marriage counsellor
The TripleMG CEO ,Ubi Franklin lwho egally married Lilian Esoro at the Ikoyi registry yesterday is now a marriage counsellor....well, sort of.
Following the union, he decided to dish out some words of advice to those who want to take the same route...
Today turned out great, thank You All for your prayers. For anyone who is yet to join this league I have an advice for you. Who you marry is the person you know not who the the world wants you to Marry. Those that are not in a situation are usually the Best Judges of other people's relationships and marriage. Make your ego porous. Will is of little importance, complaining is nothing, fame is nothing. Openness, patience, receptivity, solitude is everything. Fools have a habit of believing that everything written by a famous author is admirable. For my part I read only to please myself and like only what suits my taste. I will not be "famous," "great." I will go on adventuring, changing, opening my mind and my eyes, refusing to be stamped and stereotyped. The thing is to free one's self: to let it find its dimensions, not be impeded. God Bless everyone Reading This Post."

So sad! Mother, 7-year-old daughter die in Calabar inferno

So sad! Mother, 7-year-old daughter die in Calabar inferno

A woman and her seven-year-old daughter died Wednesday from a generator fire which also razed their apartment located at15 Andem Street, 8 miles, on the outskirt of Calabar metropolis in Cross Rivers State.

Vanguard learned that two other family members, including husband of the deceased, Mr. Lawrence, and his brother-in-law, who also sustained burns are currently hospitalised. It was gathered that the duo were trying to refill the generator with petrol when it caught fire.

However, a source who preferred anonymity, revealed to Vanguard that the generator had not been in use for a long time, and that the husband of the deceased had instructed his brother-in-law to re-engage it.

Having fuelled the tank, the young man was said to have yanked off the cord before the generator exploded.
A neighbour, Mrs. Gift Peters, said of the incident: “It had been long since they used that generator, so the man, Mr. Lawrence, asked the boy to start the generator and warm it properly since it had been long since they used it. So they bought the fuel and put in it. Immediately they started the generator, it exploded.”
Vanguard gathered that the explosion set off other generators belonging to the deceased, and also that of the occupants of the twin flat which were all lined up at the backyard and walled in by burglary proof.

Occupants of the twin flat were said to have fled upon sighting the fire, but the deceased and her daughter were reported to have been trapped inside their own apartment as the doors and windows apparently were shut in the heat of the flames.

One neighbour, Mr. Age Edward, said:
“When I heard that there was a fire, I rushed over to assist since they are my neighbours. When I arrived, the fire was so thick that we could not help out.
‘’We tried all we could to quench the fire, it was so horrible, it was later I heard that the man’s wife and child were inside.“Personally, I contacted Quick Response, QIS. I called over three times, they did not respond. The first time it was busy, the second time it rang and stopped, the third time, it rang and stopped. I did not have Fire Service number on the phone I was using yesterday. ‘’I didn’t bother to call anybody again. I tried my best since I am equally a public servant. We did our best, though it was not enough.”
When Vanguard contacted fire division of the QIS, the officials said they responded promptly, contrary to neighbours who disclosed that the fire men arrived two hours after they were called, and that they ran out of water.

Unit Commander of Fire Service at the QIS, Mr. Daniel Ibor, said his men arrived the scene 30 minutes after they were called due to the distance from Calabar to 8 Miles, which is on the outskirt of the city.

He said: “We were called at about 9:30 pm and immediately we turned out for the fire. It is quite unfortunate that the fire involved fuel‘We did our best’‘’Despite the distance, we still did our best to get there on time. We have been asking people not to put fuel into a steaming generator. We advised them to allow it cool first.‘’If it was a free burning fire, by the time we got there, we still could’ve saved a lot. Our response really stopped the fire from spreading to other property.”

Caroline Danjuma spits fire over the Cynthia Morgan photoshoot that everyone is talking about

Caroline Danjuma spits fire over the Cynthia Morgan photoshoot that everyone is talking about

Cynthia Morgan’s repeatedly futile attempt at being daring and fierce keeps falling flat.
Her fierce ;demeanor has never been striking, never been convincing.

Off and on stage, we have tried to picture this reggae-rockstar as a badass. That picture is still blurry. Instead, she keeps giving us reason to say, stop. Just stop.

And to think, she was first projected as a simple, sweet village girl in ‘Don’t break my heart’, living the dream of any village girl- being courted by the cutest guy in the village.

Then she morphed into this tomboy gangstar overnight when she believed she had made her mark in the fickle industry.

She then transcended; and started showing off major cleavage, dyed her hair red, changed the scope of her music, posted behind the scene pictures of her snuggling with artistes.

Was she trying to too hard to be relevant? Perhaps.
What may have now broken this camel’s back is her newly released new pictures from a recently concluded photoshoot and this time, someone should please hand her the white flag with STOP boldly written on it.

Cynthia, in the new pictures, can be seen carrying a baby while smoking a blunt or a cigar. Aside from the fact that the baby did in fact look dazed (imagine it is from the smoke), the picture is all forms of wrong.

Perhaps, Cynthia Morgan is trying to glorify child abuse.
The photoshoot is all shades of inappropriate and any argument for it being artistic, will be in a bad taste. An infant is involved.

The bad girl demeanor. Again for Cynthia Morgan, an epic fail.

Interestingly, we are not the only ones who think so.

Actress and mother of three, Caroline Danjuma has now taken to her instagram page to slam Cynthia Morgan for posing with a child while holding a cigar.
"It takes a child 5 years to fully grow perfectly... This is absolutely wrong... I always mind my biz but this baffles me ... When wiz kalifa did a similar thing with his own son he was called to order by child support and he apologised.. Chris brown can't get into Australia because of what he did to Rihanna.. Pls how is it ok to smoke In front of a child who is barely 2 yrs old.. Like seriously ... A lot of kids are dying from VSD and ASD... A little sniff of nicotine is a huge damage to a child... And yet this picture is circulating and being praised.... A baby mama who is a BOSS will never put her child through harms way... This ain't art... To hurt a child ain't music .. I speak for that innocent child... This is absolute rubbish . You can't do this abroad... Child agencies in Nigeria should take note... It should never be a normal thing.. Soon child pornography will be a norm... In the name of art." she wrote.

After all the red carpet buzz, we eventually got to watch the movie at 9pm which was directed by Eddie Nartey and produced by Ghanaian actress, Juliet Ibrahim.

Cast: Bryan Okwara, Fred Amugi, James Gardiner, Pauline Oduro, Pascaline Edwards, Juliet Ibrahim, Sonia Ibrahim, Gbenro Ajibade and others…

Story:  Shattered Romance revolves around two couples (Juliet Ibrahim and James Gardiner) (Bryan and Sonia Ibrahim). James Gardner, a womanizer was supposed to be married to his woman, Juliet in a week but things turn upside down.

What I think:

Although the storyline of the movie was cool and relatablee, it’s however not too different from the innumerable romantic movies that find their way onto our television screens every single day.

However, the major distinguishing feature is the level of twist and suspense manifested in the movie...it was super suspense filled. I had so many scenes that got me sitting at my edge of my seat, yea it was that goood!

The success of every movie majorly depends on the cast featured and how well they performed. One could have a great storyline but if the cast aren’t good enough to perform up to expectation, the story gets flawed.

The choice of cast was not that bad. I am not very familiar with the Ghanaian movie cast, i really don't watch Ghollywood movies but they all acted well.

Juliet Ibrahim the heroine of the movie interpreted her role well and yea she is so hawt. Everyone in the hall kept oo-ing at her baddass shape and figure..super endowed.

The somewhat ‘new kid’ in the acting sphere, Sonia Ibrahim (Juliet's sister), did not disappoint her fans as she proved to be on top of her game. At first, i felt she wasn't good enough for the role she was playing but after a few scenes, she impressed me...and yea she is as hawt as her sister!

I particularly loved the scene when she visited Bryan to tell him she was pregnant...hilarious scene.

Also, lead roles Bryan and James Gardiner were really good too.

Oh i almost forgot Gbenro Ajibade. I wasn't really impressed with his acting or maybe i just ddin't feel him in the movie. I have never seen him act (no i don't watch Tinsel) but i was always looking forward to seeing his works and now that i have, his acting was just there.

The background music, soundtrack, lightning, picture quality was super cool and i loved how attention was paid to every detail!

However the ending was annoying.

Yea, it was hard to tell how the movie would end but come on, not that ending..:(...nobody had to die, they could have ended it in a more amicable way!

Btw, I loved how the saying 'Sometimes, Bad things happen to Good people' was emphasized in the movie.

You can check out the movie at the nearest cinema close to you!
