The militant group who had been responsible for attacks on oil and gas pipelines, have now shown a willingness to surrender and enter into a dialogue with the government.
Okorocha said in a statement that the laying down of weapons ceremony will take place on Wednesday, September 14 at the government's house in Owerri.
"Governor Rochas Okorocha will be leveraging on the amnesty programme to receive militants, who have been fighting as Avengers in the Ohaji/Egbema area of the state.
"They will be expected to drop their weapons at the event. These are militants, who have been blowing pipelines and making the people in the area to have sleepless nights, until the Governor decided to take the bull by the horn," the statement read.
Okorocha then urged other militants to follow this example and urged them to lay down their weapons, urging them to enter into a dialogue with the government.
