No perfect government exists in this world - Alamieyeseigha

The first civilian governor of Bayelsa State, Diepreye Alamieyesigha, has said no perfect system of government exists anywhere in the world.

Alamieyeseigha spoke during an interactive session with reporters on Saturday in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital.

He advised, “There is no perfect government anywhere in the world. If a government programme and policies are facing challenges, it is not only the executive arm that takes the blame, the House of Assembly is empowered to check the excesses of the executive as an oversight function, so if the three arms of government are working in synergy, the people will be carried along.”

He also seized the opportunity to urge Bayelsans to vote for Governor Seriake Dickson in the forthcoming December 5 poll.

“I think we should give governor Dickson another four years to complete the projects he has embarked upon and properly hand over in 2020.”

He described the incumbent governor’s performance in the last three and half years as very impressive, visible and commendable.

Alamieyeseigha said, “Under Dickson, we now drive to places which hitherto were not possible. We could see changes springing up here and there before the economic crisis hit the country.

However, some elders in Bayelsa State, under the auspices of Assembly of Bayelsa Patriots, have resolved to galvanise the people into a mass movement to stop the second term bid of incumbent Governor, Mr. Seriake Dickson.

The ABP, made up of former National Assembly members, former public office holders, elders and youths, said they would frustrate Dickson’s re-election bid through all constitutional means.

The group, in a statement on Saturday, entitled, ‘Some fundamental reasons why Bayelsans must unite to Stop second tenure bid of Seriake Dickson’, said the Peoples Democratic Party government in the state had allegedly fallen short of the people’s expectations.”

Chairman, ABP, Major Andrew Oputa (retd.), said the Dickson’s administration, and by extension, the PDP, had broken down irretrievably due to abysmal failure to keep faith with the promises made to deliver good governance, people-oriented programmes, sustainable development, among others.
