New Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai while addressing audience at Kaduna Health Summit on Tuesday said that the state has the second highest HIV prevalence in the country and sadly only 36 per cent of mothers have the benefit of being attended to by skilled birth attendants. In his speech, Governor El-Rufai said the present situation is unacceptable. "Kaduna State has the second highest HIV prevalence in the country, and only 36 per cent of mothers have the benefit of being attended by skilled birth attendants", he said.
The governor also said the current coverage of measles vaccine in the State is 56 per cent, reflecting dismal immunisation coverage for 12-23 month-olds of only 35 per cent. He said, "Latest available date suggests that only a paltry 2 per cent of under-fives with malaria are treated with ACTs". He however said his goal is to deliver better health and longer life expectancy for Kaduna State citizens, and in this quest he will be seeking their cooperation.
