Governor Oshiomhole Suspends Uromi King ‘Zaiki Edenojie II’ For A Year

Governor Oshiomhole Suspends Uromi King ‘Zaiki Edenojie II’ For A Year

Uromi King Zaiki Edenojie II

Ojuromi of Uromi

Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo state, who leaves office next week, has suspended the Uromi King Zaiki Edenojie II for one year, effective from Monday.

In addition, the monarch who rules the home town of Chief Tony Anenih, the PDP big gun, will lose all his rights and privileges that he had hitherto exercised and also lose a share of the five per cent revenue accruing to the local council.

The  Edo State Government announced the king’s suspension late on Friday for failing to apologise within the stipulated period to a woman, Ms Betty Okoeber, whom he allegedly assaulted on September 28, among other infractions.

In a suspension letter dated November 4, 2016 signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof Julius Ihonvbere, the one-year suspension takes effect from Monday, November 7.

The letter reads: “The Governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole is in receipt of your letter of 28th October, 2016 on the above subject matter. Mr. Governor observed that your activities since you were initially suspended from office as Ojuromi of Uromi have raised issues that require further determination.

“It is important, for record purposes, to recount what has led to the present situation.  Discounting your previous conduct, on the 28th of September 2016, you left your Palace during voting and moved from polling booth to polling booth campaigning and trying to coerce voters to vote for your preferred party and candidate; you went to a polling booth which was not where you registered to vote and tried to compel others to vote for your preferred candidate; when one of the voters, Ms. Betty Okoebor refused to yield to your threats, you assaulted her causing grievous bodily harm.

“Following from this, the Government, viewing your conduct as utterly embarrassing, disgraceful and unbecoming of a traditional ruler, issued you with a query and directed that you reply within 72 hours.

“You ignored the query, travelled not just out of your domain but outside the country without permission. The flagrant arrogance of power and disregard for constituted authority compelled the State Executive Council in Session to suspend you from office as Ojuromi of Uromi for 7 days in exercise of its legal powers. You were directed not to parade yourself as Ojuromi, carry out any activity as Ojuromi, to apologise to Ms. Okoebor and also to the Edo State Government.

“It is instructive to note that in your “Letter of Apology” of 28th October, 2016, you trivialised the gravity of your misconduct by describing what took place in public glare on the 28th of September, where you were the assailant as an “altercation” and “family” affair.  Your public assault and disgrace of a citizen of the Federal Republic, in your estimation, was a non-issue.

“To ridicule the Edo State Government and deride the directive that you apologise to Ms. Okoebor, you proceeded to organise a “forgiveness Session” in your Palace, in your capacity as Ojuromi, wearing a crown even when you were still suspended from Office, purporting to be “forgiving” Ms. Okoebor.

“At the said “forgiveness Session”, you compelled the victim of your assault to apologise to you for the assault against her person, while on her knees and made to remain in same position while being interviewed by journalists.

“You had the embarrassing session videoed and aired repeatedly on television subjecting Ms. Okoebor to double jeopardy and double disgrace by expanding the frontiers of her embarrassment to a global level through the electronic and social media. This represents nothing short of a deliberate effort to further aggravate the pain and humiliation of your victim.

“You claimed in your letter that Ms. Okoebor had “reconciled herself to the Throne” which conveys the impression that you still represented the Throne from which you had been suspended, and further stated that she is your “subject” and you had “forgiven” her.  This was in gross violation of the terms of your suspension from office as provided for in extant laws.

The Government of Edo State does not accept that there are “subjects” in Nigeria but citizens of the Federal Republic.

“You will recall that the assault on Ms. Okoebor which was incidented at the Uromi Police Station on September 28, 2016, remains under investigation by the Police as a criminal act. This act, which in itself negates expectations from the exalted office of a traditional ruler, cannot be tolerated by the government in a constitutional democracy.

“Government has also received official security reports as to your high handedness in addressing relations with operators of the cattle market in Uromi to wit: unilaterally dissolving their association; appointing your preferred person to head the association, banishing their elected leader from Uromi, illegally taking over the cattle market and stalls that they built themselves, banning about eight butchers from doing business in the Uromi market and assigning the responsibility for collecting revenue for the Local Government Council to your own preferred person even without authority from the Council.

You equally laid claim to ownership of the land, which was legally allocated to the cattle marketers in the year 2000, among other infractions. These are not the actions of a law abiding traditional ruler who believes in promoting peace, unity and development in Uromi communities.

“The Government of Edo State has high regards for traditional institutions and for the values and customs of our people.  However, the Government, shall, under no condition, tolerate indiscipline, reckless abuse of traditional privileges, disrespect for its pronouncements, and flagrant humiliation of law-abiding citizens of the State.

“In view of the facts established above, taking cognizance of your letter of apology that falls short of the public apology expected from you within the stipulated time, and the earlier suspension letter which had specified dethronement after 7 days; in exercise of its powers, the Government of Edo State hereby commutes your dethronement to a one-year suspension from office as Ojuromi of Uromi in accordance with Section 28(1) of the Traditional Rulers and Chiefs Law (1979) with effect from the 7th of November, 2016.

“During this period of suspension under extant laws, you are hereby stripped of all the privileges and rights of the Ojuromi of Uromi and barred from performing any duties whatsoever in that regard.

By virtue of this suspension from office, your remuneration from the 5 percent monthly FAC allocation to the Local Government shall be appropriated and donated to orphanages during this period.”

FIFA Best Player award: Ronaldo, Messi lead 23-man shortlist

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi lead the contenders on the 23-man shortlist for The Best FIFA Men’s Player 2016 award, with three members of Leicester City’s title-winning squad also in contention.

Jamie Vardy, Riyad Mahrez and N’Golo Kante, who has since joined Chelsea, have been named on the shortlist in recognition of their roles in Leicester’s shock Premier League title success last season. Claudio Ranieri is also a leading contender for the top coach award.

Top names on the list include Portugal captain Ronaldo — who enjoyed success in the Champions League and Euro 2016 this year — and Real Madrid teammates Gareth Bale, Toni Kroos, Sergio Ramos and Luka Modric, plus Barcelona’s Messi, Luis Suarez, Neymar and Andres Iniesta.

Messi and Ronaldo have dominated FIFA’s annual award, formerly known as the Ballon d’Or and World Player of the Year, since 2008. Messi has won five times and Ronaldo three.

Ronaldo was seen as favourite under the old voting rules to win for 2016 because Portugal won the European Championship and Real Madrid won the Champions League. Messi and Argentina lost to Chile in the Copa America final.

APGA fuses into UPP, pronounces party dead

APGA fuses into UPP, pronounces party dead

The crisis ridden All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, on Friday fused the party into the United Progressives Party, UPP.

DAILY POST reports that sixteen of the 18 members of APGA announced the “political marriage” in Enugu after they had paid homage to the former founding chairman of the party, Chief Chekwas Okorie, who is now the national chairman of the UPP.

Apart from the 16 NWC members led by Chief Chris Ejike Uche, the delegate was also accompanied by other national leaders of APGA, including members of the Board of Trustees, BoT.

In unison, they declared that “APGA is now dead and buried; this is not a merger; it is a home-coming. So, from today, there is no more APGA.”

‎Leader of the APGA delegation, which included 16 NWC members, and some BoT members, Chief Chris Ejike Uche noted that there had been the desire for a true progressive party in the country.

He stated that “over 90 percent of what you know as APGA took the bold step to fuse into the UPP.

“The 16 members out of the 18 NWC members are here and that attests to the seriousness of what we have done here today.

“We recall that Chief Chekwas Okorie founded the APGA but it was unjustly taken away from him. He left with the soul of APGA and that is why the party has been struggling all these years.

“Today, we have come back and we are happy to announce that APGA has now been fused into the UPP. Whatever you may hear as APGA after today is the carcas. It has been finnaly buried today.”

All the Speakers, including the Deputy National Chairman of the party, Sadiq Massala, confessed that they betrayed Okorie during the early crisis period in the party.

He, however, declared that: “we have come to tell the world that from today, we have laid APGA to rest and we are now in UPP. We betrayed him and went into confusion and that confusion could not yield result.

“We could not move forward for the past 10 years; therefore, we have come back.

“The APGA members in the 19 Northern States mandated me to be here and speak on their behalf. The decomposing body, the carcas is what we have left behind. You can imagine a party going to court for the past 14 years.

“This is not really a merger; it is a home-coming; we have come back to where we belong.”

Another leader in the party, Dr. Isah Jega, who is the chairman of the APGA chairmen in the 36 States and the FCT, Abuja noted that “today is a very remarkable day in the history of democracy in Nigeria. This is a day democrats have come together to look forward to a better Nigeria.

“We are not in UPP to bring councillors; we are in UPP to win chairmanship, governorship and presidential positions and I am telling you that that President will be of Igbo extraction.

“By the grace of God, in 2019, the real change will come; we are looking forward to the East for the President of Nigera.”

The representative of the South-West, Hon. E.A Adekunle and that of the South-South, Sunday Obasahon, also re-echoed the stand of the their colleagues that APGA was now dead and buried.

Guys, Take Note!!! These are the 7 Types of Men That Women Just Can't Say No To

Guys, Take Note!!! These are the 7 Types of Men That Women Just Can't Say No To

File photo

There are certain kinds of men that women drool over at all times. These are some of those kinds of men.

Always wondered why some guys always manage to get the best of girls? Well, the secret is not good looks or a well-defined six pack, but the fact that women simply get attracted to certain personality traits and flock to men who possess them.

Below are seven of these “ideal types” of guys that women are drawn to, and an explanation as to why these guys are so appealing, reports Fox News.

The list could help you understand what women are looking for, and most importantly, to make sure that you fit the bill.

1. The intelligent one

He instigates conversations that are intellectually stimulating, and listens to what she has to say in response. He makes her laugh with his clever sense of humour, and has an uncanny ability to make politics interesting. He can shoot the breeze with her for hours, and it will never get boring.

Why he is so irresistible

An intellectual connection is a big part of what sustains a relationship, and if you can show her that you’ve got that, she’ll be hooked pretty quickly.

2. The confident guy

He is totally secure and sure of himself. He is assertive in public, and gives off an aura of power and control. In a relationship, he doesn’t get jealous of other men; he doesn’t feel threatened by his girlfriend’s male friends or co-workers.

Why he is so irresistible

Women are attracted to confident men. Consider this: If you think you are great, she will probably be influenced to think the same. The confident man doesn’t seek approval from women, and this makes them want him even more.

3. The artistic guy

The artistic guy is spontaneous and lives for the moment. Often, he will use his creativity to woo her, such as with a song he has written about her or a painting he has made for her.

Why he is so irresistible

Every woman wants to feel unique and special. There is no better way to make her feel this way than to use her as your muse or your source of inspiration. She is intrigued by the artistic guy’s creative mind, and especially by the way he incorporates her into his art.

4. The exotic element

He comes from a faraway exotic country, and has a cute accent or a unique way of seeing the world. His social customs, and everyday behaviour can be a little quirky, but he always manages to come off as uniquely charming.

Why he is so irresistible

Women often choose this kind of guy if they are curious about the world, but most of the appeal comes down to a fascination with dating someone from another culture.

5. The considerate guy

He holds open her car door, and pulls out her chair. He foots the bill for dinner, and makes sure to offer her dessert. He always asks her out with reasonable notice, and picks her up at her door. He is generally sensitive to how she is feeling, and when she is ready to go home.

Why he is so irresistible

Once a woman has gone through her share of the bad guy, the rude guy and the not-calling-her-back guy, she will likely re-evaluate her priorities. It takes a bit of maturity on her part to realize this, but eventually most girls come around and realize that they want a guy who will treat them well in the long run. But, think twice before copying any of the above character types, for women can know when you are faking it.

6. Eternal romantic

He believes in classic romance. He is constantly bringing her flowers, chocolate and lighting candles during dinner. He calls her often to let her know he is thinking about her, and looks into her eyes and tells her how he feels.

Why he is so irresistible

A woman loves to feel appreciated, and the romantic guy makes this happen. He uses romantic gestures to show her he is thinking about her. As an added bonus, she feels free to reciprocate and act on her own romantic tendencies.

7. The free spirit guy (aka the Bad Boy)

The free spirit guy goes where the wind takes him, and the wind usually takes him on some kind of whacky adventure. He might ride a motorcycle, or he might skip work to take her on a last-minute road trip, but this guy doesn’t worry too much about the consequences – he just sees where his own devices take him.

Why he is so irresistible

Every woman wants a bit of a rebel. She loves his carefree attitude and hopes that it will rub off on her too. The bad boy spirit adds an element of youthfulness to the relationship, and she loves to try taming him, although she knows she’ll never actually succeed.

Court bans Zuckerberg, Gates-backed schools

Court bans Zuckerberg, Gates-backed schools

Zuckerberg

Uganda’s High Court on Friday ordered the closure of a chain of low-cost private schools backed by Microsoft and Facebook founders Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg.

A judge ruled that the 63 Bridge International Academies provided unsanitary learning conditions and had not been properly licensed.

The ruling is a blow to Bridge International which has expanded rapidly since its inception in 2008, offering cheap, standardised, technology-driven education in developing countries in Africa and Asia.

Under the Bridge International model, teachers read scripted lessons word-for-word from a tablet computer that also records student attendance and assessments.
Gates’ and Zuckerberg’s foundations are among the company’s high-profile backers.

But Bridge International has courted controversy, with Liberian teachers threatening to strike earlier this year over government plans to outsource all primary education to the private US-owned company.

In Uganda, government inspectors said children were being taught in sub-standard facilities and unsanitary conditions.

Bridge International, which claims to have 12,000 students in Uganda, said it would challenge the High Court ruling.

“We are extremely disappointed for our pupils and disagree with this ruling,” said liaison officer, Godwin Matsiko.
